... is Monday, and I start my all-day drive to Grand Portage on Friday, take the all-day ferry on Saturday, and start hiking on Sunday. I'm thinking I should swathe myself in bubble wrap and stay in bed until it's time to leave lest I sprain my ankle, get West Nile virus, or am attacked by flesh-eating bacteria.

One of the ladies we were on the tour of Celestun with told us we "weren't like other Americans". We took this as a complement. She meant that we talked to them as equals.
It is sad that many Americans do think of themselves as superior. Maybe they are financially. But that does make you better than someone else.
