    ... is Monday, and I start my all-day drive to Grand Portage on Friday, take the all-day ferry on Saturday, and start hiking on Sunday. I'm thinking I should swathe myself in bubble wrap and stay in bed until it's time to leave lest I sprain my ankle, get West Nile virus, or am attacked by flesh-eating bacteria.

    You won't hear from me again for a few more weeks since I can't blog directly from the island. I appreciate your comments on my writing, so let me know what you think!


    We aren't like other Americans

    One of the ladies we were on the tour of Celestun with told us we "weren't like other Americans". We took this as a complement. She meant that we talked to them as equals.
