Yaa Hoo from the Calgary Stampede

A travel blog entry by svohland

The day started out early on Friday the 4th of July with a cab ride into the city to witness the Stampede Parade. I was a bit of a pessimist not really being into the whole parade thing but it was brilliant. Loved it with the diversity of the floats and the old Canadian/American historical items like coaches etc. About 750 horses in the parade. …

... Boston Pizza. We've seen them in lots of towns that we've driven through since Winnepeg. I can now say they make very good pizza - a nice tender-but-chewy crust and a yummy sauce. And their spicy Italian sausage is definitely spicy!

Tomorrow night, we have reservations in Sandpoint, Idaho; tonight is our last night in Canada. The people have been very nice. The weather has been great (it's so strange to have 68F in the afternoon ...

... live into the identity God has created them to live into is the foundational first step to development.

On the last Saturday afternoon, we were able to present all of our asset mapping findings to Rod and Twila, Odalis, a city counsellor, our translators, and some other TEARS staff. While this process of consolidating two weeks of interview ideas into a manageable and clear format was a difficult task for my very linear non-abstract thinking self, ...

... people ready to jump up with a dry towel, bring you a lounge chair, carry your suitcase, turn down your bed, serve a drink... We were disturbed by the evident poverty. Whole villages living in houses made from cow dung or wigwam type homes made from twigs and animal hide or plastic bags, shelters erected on the edges of city dumps. The roads offer a 'Kenyan massage". Not the main highways but many of the roads we travelled were horrible (although not a lot ...

Well the room was quite lovely and we had 2 dogs with us and they were accommodated very well with no carpets which for a dog owner in a motel room takes the pressure off in relation to any accidents. A couple of small issues that need to be addressed. Coffee machine in the room did notr work and when I reported it there was no action for the 2 days we were there. There was no room service menu in the room and after waiting for 40 minutes after requesting one I decided to go down and get one myself. The worst part was the beautiful spa bath which we filled. My wife went to get in and the water was boiling. There was no way to regulate the temperature and the consequences could of been much worse had it of been one of my children involved.

Schönes Hotel, gute Lage zum Flughafen

    from

    from

Hace poco hicimos un viaje a Calgary y nos dejaron impresionados las 4 noches que pasamos aquí.

Good Stay, other similar hotels nearby a little more expensive

    from

We spent the last three nights in Calgary at this Royal Inn. The location is reasonably convenient and the price is fair at about $100 per night, which is actually cheaper than places such as Econolodge. It is easy to access the hotel south on Barlow right on 27 Ave NE. A free airport shuttle is available. The area is industrial but populated with hotels and restaurants, a moderate walk to Sunridge Mall to the east is quite doable.

I will stay some where else in Calgary

    from

I stayed at this hotel on business for one night and I was happy it was only one night. The elevator wasn't working and they staff at the front counter wasn't very interested.

The room was very plain but clean. For a hotel over $100 a night I was expecting a little more.

    A wonderful stay

    from

I took a trip out west a few weeks ago to see what the rest of Canada had to offer (after spending my life hardly setting foot outside of Ottawa). My final stop was a week in Alberta divided between Calgary and Drumheller. During my four days in Calgary, I stayed at this hotel and have to say it was by far the best and most enjoyable stay out of the four hotels I was in during my vacation.

    Great Stay

    from

I had a great experience with this hotel. The decor of the room was not only beautiful but it was in great shape. I didn't even hear any noise like I usually do in hotels. The lobby was big and bright and the the hotel was easy to locate.

    Watch your valuables

    from

Well, I have stayed here on and off for the last 3 months. Unfortunately, I will never stay here again. The good things about this hotel is that they are affordable and it is fairly new. The reason I will never stay here again is that I have had valuables stolen out of my room twice from housekeeping. You can judge for yourself but here is what happened. When I went to work one day, I forgot to bring my calling card with me. When I returned to the hotel and called back to my girlfriend I was informed I had a zero balance. After I called the calling card company they informed me my callling card was used to call Nigeria at 2pm today from my hotel room. That was a little strange since I worked all day and I do not know anyone in Nigeria or all of Africa for that matter. The hotel management was less then helpful. They just said they would investigate and get back to me. Of course I never heard anything again from them.

    Short and Sweet !!!

    from

Good Hotel...I was only there for an overnighter on a business trip...but room was very good for the price. Location is close to some good restaurants and the Airport. I will stay here again without hesitation.

    Clean,reasonable and convenient

    from

I stumbled on the Executive Royal Inn a few years ago and have found myself coming back on a regular basis since. It is very convenienient for the airport traveller, parking is easy and the rooms are well appointed and clean. As for the restaurant, forget it! But don't dismay there are some excellent popular and mid priced restaurants only three minutes walk away. Rates are reasonable and I find rooms are often available when all the other hotel chains in the city are sold out. Bottom line = good value and dependable.
