Wednesday evening and we are not quite halfway to the Falklands, having left Montevideo last night. We are also a long way from the argentine coast now. Calm seas and moderate winds and mostly sunny. But getting colder as we move south. Yesterday it was raining in Montevideo but we took a city tour by bus so stayed mostly dry. That said, the pub had some amazing features - including stained glass windows from a church in Morecambe (England!) that was due to be destroyed. The owners of the pub had bought and had them shipped to the USA.

Our next step was Astoria, just over the huge (over 4 ...

... around here! Everyone takes off into a small patch of snow, and we eventually come around and walk up through to the Lodge. The Lodge itself looks very familiar – and I suddenly place it, from The Shining. A quick google lets me know that the Timberline Lodge was used for some of the exterior shots in the film. Wow, it is impressive to be here.

It is very quiet at the moment inside – the snowstorm ...
