... the ride mentioned something about passing by an active copper mine, but nothing prepared us for the Morenci Copper Mine. This thing was HUGE! And we didn't pass BY the copper mine, we passed THROUGH the copper mine. US-191 literally passed through the excavation. There were huge earth moving equipment on both sides of the road, with signs to turn off cell phone and CB radios and to be prepared to stop in the event of blasting ...

Leave and drive towards the San Andreas mountains, arrive at Las Cruces - not what I imagined, it's a really ugly sprawling place so carried on to Mesilla. That's more like it, a pretty very Mexican looking town (although very touristy) where ...

We went over a plateau where Hwy 10 meets up with Hwy 20 and the vista and the views from the top were awesome to behold. A person can see for miles and miles and see desert, and sand, and bushes and sand and rocks and sand and cacti and sand...Well, you get the drift...

... when we checked in to be sure to check the weather channel. It seemed that a storm was coming - and it did. The wind started that night. I mean wind that was blowing at a constant 20 MPH, gusting to 40. We thought we were only going to stay one night but we ended up being there for 4 nights. We drove to Walmart, a mile away, and knew we made the right decision to stay. Did not want to be ...
