    ... restaurant, and they both independently told us to go to the Great Eastern in Jackson Street. It was a fair walk, but we went there. The menu was quite extensive and the service was very quick. We had a beef dish, pork ribs and fried rice, and a beer each. The bill with tip came to $63, so we won't be able to spend money like that every night !! It had lots of people and a fast turnover so seems popular. The food was tasty, but probably not spectacular. ...

The trees are South American Pepper trees brought here by the Spaniards. The picture on her desk was of a eucalyptus tree on that spot taken 100 years ago, so the pepper tree is less than 100 years ago, which is amazing because it’s so enormous.     Arriving in LA from Hawai'i we rented a big jeep and drove straight to Santa Cruz near San Francisco. If we would have done a little homework we could have flown straight to SF instead of LA. To save us a long drive. But it was not like we had to get up early next day, so we drove there in 6 hours straight. If you are going to be dumb you better be tough.

My poor descriptions and even the pictures don't come close to doing it justice.
