Fortunately it was closed and we were treated to a magnificent ride over the pass on the N20 and into Spain. Back on the train to Paris and our ...

Caught the train to Lourdes. It is six hours from Paris but we had been looking forward to seeing the grotto where Bernadette saw the Virgin Mary. The basilica is magnificent. Lourdes is picture postcard. It is tranquil and the river runs through the town. There is a fort high up on ...

... late in the day, in the heat and on day six. A lot of people suffered on this climb. We made it, descended the short section and started climbing more gently through open pastures where horses, sheep and cattle were grazing. It was case of heads down, keep spinning up the hill. I think it was at this stage that Paul said: “Did you see that guy lying in the meadow? Do you think he was OK?” My reply: “Sounds like a good idea to me.” I hadn’t ...
