The day after... Get everything out of the car, get it ready to go directly to Rio for the South America Challenge starting on Feb 14th. In between we arranged for it to be serviced in Thailand... Then pack our bags and prepare to board a midnight flight to Heathrow... Great memories of the last three weeks, of old and new frienda and of a very enjoyable event... See you in Rio next ...

... didn't trip, he collapsed which made me think stroke or heart attack but he was speaking and moving fine. Got to a walking tour that lasted the rest of the day. Saw some of J K Rowlings inspiration in a beautiful old book shop and the cloak wearing student community. We finished near the river but missed the port tasting that ran during the day on the other side. Instead we got a drink and food nearby. We were gonna go out but crashed and fell asleep ...

Lisbon!! 3hour train to Porto. I loved that the first thing I heard leaving the station was the cry of a gull. The buildings are definitely more beautiful here. The hostel is on the edge of a square surrounded by beauty. Out for a four o'clock lunch and asked for traditional Porto food. Aviva got a franhasinia; a toasty covered in melted cheese, egg, meats, drowned in a beer and tomato sauce and served ...
Viana do Castelo
Stayed the night in Viano De Castelo south of Valenca. The town has many cobbled streets which was hard going in the van with the ****** suspension. Most of the cupboard doors stayed closed.Drove up the hill above Viano to a large gothic church that looked down on the town below. What a view from the top though. You can see down the coast to Porto. The place reminded me of a similar church in Turin located up on the hill above the city. Both had a funicular running to the top.

We spent the day exploring the city. Our big touristy thing to do was a river cruise. I figured you get the best views of the city from the center of it! The tour was pretty, but they didn't give much information in English. I think the only sites they pointed out were the bridges that cross ...
