Historical Traveler Reviews Goldstar Resort & Suites Nice

Beautiful room, good location, friendly staff

For a short trip in November we spent 3 nights in this nice hotel in the beautiful city of Nice. It's around 3 blocks from the beach and one block from the first pedestrian street for shopping and eating out. Location is perfect, close to wherever you want to go but still calm enough at night to sleep with the windows open (though we had a room to the back side of the hotel, don't know the noise level on the street side.)

Room is very comfortable, nicely designed with new and modern furniture. We had a Jr. Suite with a full desk, a kitchenette with refrigerator, a flat tv, a bathroom and a comfortable King size bed. The room is spacious enough and bright with a big window. The shutters got stuck on the last day but the always helpful and friendly staff seemed to be taking care of it right away after we left.

One thing we were dissappointed was, that the sauna and steam room weren't fully functional yet. The sauna worked but there were no towels or hangers for your stuff outside. The floor was dirty from construction dust, the hammam or steam room were closed and next to it was a still open construction for some kind of second steam room. During the three days we were there we didn't see any work beeing done on that spot. It seems like half built and left abandoned. As it was an important criteria for us to choose this hotel, we were rather dissappointed. So, in case you choose this hotel for its sauna and hammam, be sure to call the hotel beforehand and ask if they are both fully functional.

Great location, great service, great rooms

I have just come back from a short break at this Hotel with my mother. We went for a short shopping trip. We were delighted with our choice of Hotel and if I was going to Nice again I would definitely book the Gold Star.

We asked the Hotel to organise transfers from the airport as our flight was arriving quite later. We were met by a very nice driver displaying our name on a card. The journey to the City was very relaxing, he had classical music playing and spoke excellent English, he carried our bags into the Hotel and directly to the porter when we reached Gold Star.

Our room was spacious modern and had everything you could need including two plasma screen TV's. We used the kitchen for breakfast one morning and had breakfast in the Hotel once. Hotel breakfast was good but probably a little overpriced.

Staff were wonderful. They helped us plan each day, advised, booked things for us, gave us an adapter and best of all allowed us to have a late check out the day we were leaving. All staff were exceptionally friendly.

The bar was on its 3rd night as a piano bar and wow. What a musical experience. Two live musicians, one a singer/pianist the other a percussionist. FANTASTIC music. Everything from soul to Elton John and they asked us if there was anything we would like them to play. We only discovered the bar on our third night, otherwise we would have gone for a night cap each evening.

We booked the same driver back to the airport. €48 for pick up from and €28 back to. I guess because to pick up at the airport he needed to park and hang around for us. It was worth it.

All in all a great Hotel, walking distance from everywhere.

Modern, sauber, schöne Lage. Sehr empfehelenswert

Gut gelegen und in gehbarer Reichweite vom Strand und der Altstadt. Zimmer und Service waren klasse. Sehr empfehlenswert.

Modern, clean, nice location. Highly recommended

Well located, walking distance from the beach and Old Nice. Rooms and service are great. Highly recommended.

    We loved the Goldstar

AKQ from Wicklow has said everything I was going to say. We had a wonderful two days here and wished it could have been longer. I would add that the reception staff were excellent, especially Luis (and very handsome too!!!). The entertainment in the bar was very good, drinks reasonably priced and the beds were wonderful. Although not a huge swimming pool, it was plenty big enough to have a good swim in. The hotel is very modern and high-tech -even the shutters on the windows are operated electronically. We can't wait to go back!

    Excellent suites at this hotel

My husband and I stayed for two nights at Goldstar Resort recently. This Hotel is only opened since July and is very modern, clean and airy. The suites are all finished in rich hardwood and marble tiling. Our one bedroom suite was very well equiped with two flat screen tvs, a kitchenette with stove, fridge and microwave. The bathroom was beautiful with a large corner bath/shower and two sinks. Two robes were also provided. The room had internet access and a safe. The settee in the lounge opened to a double bed so four people could sleep in the suite quite comfortabley.

On the top floor of the hotel is a restaurant and bar. There are some romantic outdoor eating booths for two overlooking the rooftops of Nice.

On the rooftop is a lovely pool and sunbathing area with plenty of sunbeds. There is also a small gym and a sauna and steamroom.

We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Most of them spoke some English.

The location of the Hotel is very central to shops, restaurants and the lovely Promanade and beach is only a 5 minute walk. It is a 15 minute drive to the airport.

Overall we found this Hotel to meet all our needs and we would definitly stay there again.

    Traumhaftes neues Hotel!!

    Great for a young family

I've always been a bit of a stickler when it comes to booking hotels and using the pictures and description to to gauge what the place will be like. However, I must admit to being very pleased on this occassion when we were shown to our room/suite by the porter. Everything was new (the hotel had only been open for 6 weeks apparently) and clean. There was a brand new cot for my 6 month old daughter, already made up for her. There were a few finishing touches which will probably end up on a snagging list for the builders to sort out, but all in all everything for our stay was fine. The only problem we did have was that the safe would not close, so you could not reset the code etc. Reported to reception but not fixed by the time we left. We will recommend this to our friends with young families, as it gives you everything you need at a price lower than you can expect in some of the more traditional hotels. If you're after traditional features, the photos kind of give it away that it is modern and contemporary.

Do take a travel kettle if you want a cup of tea. You only get coffee maker. Oh, and there is now a bridge over the swimming pool on the roof, so you can't swim more than 3 meters either way. Fine for a 6 month old baby, but if you need a dip and thrash around in the morning then the beach isn't that far away!

    Do you like disturbed nights?

This hotel only just opened, and is not finished.

If you like to be woken at night by thumping "music" till the small hours, this is the place for you! The hotel restaurant and 'night club' is on the top floor, and there is NO noise insulation (despite their claim) on the floor below, where the "celings" are made of plastic sheeting (and ours had a tear in it as well!)

There were also problems with the water system, which kept us awake for the night when there was no music! Contrary to their website, there was no internet facility in the bedrooms. After 3 days it began to function, but then broke down again. Only one computer was then available in the main hall, no privacy, no restriction on use, so long waiting period, and no printing facility.

The sauna and steam room were not functioning when we stayed. The pool area on the top floor is pleasant enough, though the seating/sun loungers are basic and uncomfortable. The stairs to the top floor were not cleaned for the whole of our stay, neither were they finished.

The aircondtioning worked well, but our rooms just had a gaping hole where the grill should have been. The beds are the usual hard ones found in most hotels. The bathroom is well appointed athough they never provided the "slippers" they promise.

There is absolutely NO French atmosphere about this hotel - it could be anywhere: it is expensive, and poor value for money.

... challenging than one would think after a sleepless flight.

We pulled ourselves together and went to the pedestrian zone in Nice. Lovely shops, cafes and people watching. We enjoyed a delicious meal sitting next to a French couple who were suitably impressed with my pathetic French skills... just wait until I hit Italy!!!!! Buon soir!

... French, but then the second language on most processed food is Arabic! Ah, I don't understand anything other than the pictures! You also have to weigh your produce...what? Like you select your items - put them in a plastic produce bag (I know you're cringing mom), and then weigh it yourself to get a sticker with the price. Then the cashier just scans your sticker. I suppose this process makes sense when you speak french, but we were in line already with a handful of ...

... miss it. We found it and we emerged at the top to a magnificent view of the city below us. We had cold drinks at a small cafe at the top before walking back down (much easier going down than up). The pathway led us down past small waterfalls and through sun dappled woodland before reaching another corner of the old town. By this time we had walked miles and so we found a small restaurant where we ordered toasted Paninis/Baguettes before walking ...

... back to the scene of my first defeat we asked the lovely man at Monte Carlo how much a taxi back to Nice would cost. He took pity on us, said his missus lived in Nice and muttered something in French that sounded suspiciously like "**** loads". He was dead on. 18km and €85 later we arrived back at the hostel. With egos and wallets bruised but spirits intact (just) we looked forward to when we could finally laugh about this episode. That time has ...
