... terrorist killings in Tunisia and Lyon, France. Very sad. Yesterday the Parisian taxis staged a strike to protest Uber. Parisian taxis pay high fees and taxes and Uber drivers do not. We were not directly affected by the strike but we are grateful that the strike is over and we should easily be able to get to the airport tomorrow. So today we hopped on the "hop on/hop off" bus that carried us around the city. We saw the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, ...

... went to inspect this famed food destination. Cheeses, fish, pates and other small goods were all on sale, as were delicious cakes. We were able to order some pate and an eclair filled with salmon with little 'drops' of sour cream and dill on top which we took outside and ate with a glass of chablis...a most delicious light lunch which we then extended with a cake each and coffee. We spend three hours at the Louvre, some highlights were Venus ...

... from the top of the Tour Eiffel, as you actually got to see the Tour itself. After doing the rounds, it was time to head back for our daily nap before heading out to meet an old friend from Perth for dinner. It was a bit of a dinner party, we met JM (as per the quote above), his wife AB and a couple of their expat friends as well. I had a steak tartare. It was amazing. Raw beef, scallions, pickles and a raw egg yolk. I would not try it at home, but when in Paris. ...

... loved how all the cafe's tables and chairs are positioned so everyone looks out at the street- like a line in a cinema - so no-one misses out on the action. We purchased the open bus tour tickets for all the routes and started with the main line. Luckily we got great seats on the top of the bus and had excellent views of everything as we went by. The weather was also wonderful - warm but overcast so it was not too hot to sit on the top. At Notre Dame ...
