... and didn't love that we only ordered 2 courses for lunch, but whatever. The cappuccino of asparagus with crème fraiche was SOUP and it was delicious. I had duck breast with what I can only describe as flat tater tots, so I was more
than happy. Mark ordered the filet mignon of a mystery meat, which turned out to be pork tenderloin.

After lunch, we waded through the wet streets and alleyways of Annecy. There’s not much ...

We returned the bikes moments before the rental shop closed but well within the ...

The view at the top was amazing with Mont Blanc visible across Lake Annecy. After coming down we passed through some working villages and had lunch on the lake before returning home and dinner in the old ...

I assembled the bike, got the lycra on, and rode upwards towards Montee Revard. When you are riding a mountain pass you are working very hard, in my case almost 2hrs solid. So you are very conscious to occupy your mind with anything other than "how far, how hard, how much hurt". ...

    Rochefort

Next day we travelled on through the Vendee and Charente Maritime regions with an evening stay at Rochefort. A very interesting town, haunt of Cardinal Richilieu, and built as a naval defence base by Louis XIV. Much more our style, because it was small enough to walk about admiring the historic buildings and to see the pleasure harbour, and small commercial port. And it's the French home of oysters... Which they grade and sell like good ...
