Arrival in Cancun

We arrived in Cancun at 9am and it was warm and toasty even in the morning :) Our package deal was really cheap(got it at www.tripschedule.com my favorite place to book travel) and it was on Virgin Airlines, which totally rocks!

Excellent but the polish just needs time

from chikitaa
My husband and I just got back from a two week vacation. We arrived the second day it opened so we got to see a lot of the changes. We do a lot of traveling and only at luxury hotels so I hope our review helps. Start with the not so good: In two weeks I did not see anybody swimming in the ocean... too many weeds. I did see three backhoes and about ten employees starting to make a difference in the weed problem just before we left. The sand is very nice. The maid service was very inconsintent... not always coming back to do the turndown same with the mini bar. I asked a couple of times for orange juice bottles and I am still waiting. The food was very good with a lot of variety but served warm, not hot enough. We started asking for the food to be hot and when we did it was but if we forgot it was warm to cold. The staff was very nice and courteous but I think inter-staff communications are not very good because I almost always had two ask for things twice or more times... A bit frustrating by the end of our two weeks. Not all amentities opened or 100% finished... missing decor....

The good: Everything else is fantastic... The grounds, rooms and restaurants are beautiful. The beds are very comfortable and you don't even hear the A/C fan in the room. I live for spas and I have to say that I was very impressed with the spa area. Even my husband who does not set foot in one enjoyed it. We spent an afternoon in their pool. I won't get to into the details but believe me...AMAZING!!! And that part of the spa is free. The drinks are amazing with premium brands and lots of service around the pool so you don't even need to get up. The service is already at a five star level and all the resort really needs is just time to get the polish. I am sure that they will since every single day brought major transformations. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact the management as they are very comforting and accomodating. They made a big difference in our stay...thank you to Jose Fernandez. We will be back again for two weeks in the next year. The only reason we did not give a five is because it was not finished and missing the absolute 100% polish I expect from the Excellence hotels.

Excellence Paya Mujeres is the Best! Loved every minute.

I'm just returning from a wonderful vacation at Excellence Playa Mujeras! The resort is located on the north side of Cancun.

It is in an exclusive gated area.

Excellence prides itself in small details that enhances the guest

's stay. We were greeted by the doorman who immediately called us by our names and served us cold towels and water. It was very impressive.

All the rooms are large suites. They are beautifully decorated in the latest contemporty style. The white leather furniture in the rooms and in key areas compliment the rich ambiance of the resort. They either have a patio or a large balcony with an oversized couch. Every suite has a dbl jacuzzi that opens both to your room or outside terrace. They also have two level suites with your own pool with fountain for your back and a full sunning bed. Yes, romance is in the air all around the couples only resort.

There are 8 unbelieveable restaurants. All have special dishes and presentations to delight all the senses. No reservations or silly wrist bands are required. The Mexican restaurant has singers seranading the diners. The Mexican coffee presentation is beautiful. There are three sections to Spice, the Asian restaurant. There is a sushi section, dining traditionally from a menu, or a private rooms with habachi cooking. In the French

restaurant one can dine outside on a balcony by candlelight or inside with rich brocade fabrics and live piano music. Room service food was outstanding and if desired, they will set up a private dinner on one's terrace. They even have a box for room service deliveries so they will not interrupt the couples.

When you go, dont miss the spa experience. They recommend going to the spa one hour before the treatment. One is then set on a eight station hydro therapy course. They have all the latest equipment and it is total for your relaxation pleasure. After our treatment we laid on stone warming lounge chairs. How cool is that! There is a public area off the spa that cane be used without a special treatment. The pool there is heated with a back and neck splash fountain. It is an adventure to use it.

Other guests were there because they have heard or experienced Excellence's fine reputation at one of their other

resorts. Everyone was happy and excited about this opening.

They felt this resort was tweaked with many special details to make the resort experience even more memorable. I felt daily the

people working at Excellence tried to make surprises just for me in their outstanding service and offerings.

Don't miss this resort. I will be back!

A Wonderful Trip

from Sinatra30
It truly is an honor to be one of the first visitors to not only visit the Excellence Playa Mujeres (EPM) but also write this review. I will try to keep this short, but I am a HUGE believer in this site and the reviews and I want to give you as much information as possible since it is a brand new resort.

Let me first say that my wife and I stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun (ERC) last year during the same week of November. We LOVED our entire stay and were planning on going back until we came across the Excellence's new resort the EPM. Since it was only going to be open two-days before we were scheduled to arrive, we thought let's at least give it a try. So we did and I will say I give our entire stay a 4 ½ out of 5-stars. It was wonderful and again what made it great was the wonderful and unbelievable staff of the Excellence.

We stayed November 3rd-8th. The resort for the most part is open and operating and each new day something else opens, so by the time you visit who knows how much this will be relative, but the one minor thing that bugged me was the items that were not available like Agave the Mexican Restaurant. It looks like it is weeks from being finished, but it was never "officially" stated that is was closed each night. The actual Excellence Club which we paid for was never open during our 5-day stay. We stayed in the Excellence Club last year at ERC, and enjoyed the additional benefits. We were looking forward to it this year, but the club never opened. I don't know what we paid our extra money for other then a Ocean front room. Some other minor issues were the TV wasn't programmed (I needed to watch the Colts/Patriots game), the phone didn't work, the lights didn't work, maid-service was never reliable, etc. Each of the items were fixed within a timely manor, but the maid-service. AGAIN we expected the first few days to be a "little off" and this didn't bug us to much, but it's the difference from giving them a 4 ½ instead of 5-stars.

Now on to the good stuff... The EPM is on beautiful grounds and like the ERC, staff is constantly working on everything from the grounds to the buildings. The beach is a lot like the ERC, very weedy and dirty. In their defense they constantly were working on the beach and tried to help as mush as possible. The pools seemed smaller then the pools at the ERC, but their also seemed to be more of them in what I would call "neighborhoods" around the buildings. It seems like each building had their own pool, though I know this is not how it was planned, it was nice. We stayed at pool 7 the entire week and we only shared the pool once for about 20-minutes with another couple. Young Victor from the Excellence Club bar area found us numerous times and we appreciated that. I believe pool 7 was one of the heated pools, but none of the pools were ever real warm.

The rooms are very nice, I think better then the ones at the ERC. They are wider, not longer. Our room was in building 8 and over looked the pool area and restaurants. The rooms have a walk in closet with a safe in it and hanger space. The bathroom offers two sinks, a separate toilet area, and an AWESOME shower with a rain-shower head above. There is ton of drawer space and a 42-inch LCD TV. The living area has an "L" shaped couch and table and chair set. Outside is a double bed to listen and enjoy the breeze and Mexican music. A nice little feature that the ERC didn't have that we enjoyed was the "indoor/outdoor" whirlpool. That's right you could sit in the whirlpool inside your room OR open the windows and suddenly you are outside. A great little feature. The mini bar was stocked daily and they were sure to make sure if you ate or drank something you would receive extra of it.

The food for the most part was very good. We ate at The Grill (Steak & Chicken), Chez Isabelle (French), Toscana (Italian), Spice (Asian), and once more at Toscana. The dinners at Chez Isabelle and Toscana (the first night) were wonderful. Spice has an awesome starter menu and The Grill's chicken was nicely done. For lunch we ate everyday at The Grill/Lobster House. They have the best burgers, nachos, shrimp cocktail, Caesar Salad, etc. Victor and his entire staff have that lunch spot humming and the food was very good. The drinks were very good and flowing all week. My wife and I did a good job trying different drinks, something we didn't do last year at ERC. This year we had everything from beer (Sol, XX) to mixed to wine. They used Top Shelf in every drink.

For us the best part of the vacation has got to be the staff. The Excellence company as a whole does a very good job hiring people who want to truly please the needs and wants of their visitors. Before we even arrived Marisol from the Host Department arranged to have a private Taxi pick us up and brings us back to the Airport. She made it a point to check-in with me twice during our stay. The waiters and waitresses seem to remember our faces, and they quickly became a second family while we were away from ours. Like last year, we bought with us a ton of 1's, 5's, and 10's for tipping. I was raised for good service, you tip. So we did and we appreciated their service and I know they appreciated a dollar here and there for their hard work.

At the end of the day, we loved our trip to the EPM. Would we go back? Absolutely. We are already planning for next year. We highly recommend it! Once the resort is up and running at 100%, it will be the talk of the Cancun area.

Super hôtel!!

from ana1543

Great place!!

from ana1543
We arrived on Nov 12th and I was a little nervous after reading some of the posts. The resort is beautiful!!! The beach okay, lots of seaweed but they did say that it was going to get taken care of. Service and food was wonderful. They were still doing some work and there was one resturant that wasn't open and the gym was not done. But for the most part everything was great and once everything is completely up and running it's going to be an amazing resort. We are planning to go back in april!!!!

Great Decor, Great Amenities when Complete

from rlouisa
I am giving my review based on other hotels in the Cancun area that my wife and I have stayed at.

I believe that this resort will find its way into many people's top five list in the Cancun vicinity. When we arrived we noticed of how beautiful all the architecture is and the subtle craftsmanship, but in many instances not all was completed and it looked nice but unfinished. This is exactly how I would call this resort when we stayed, nice yet unfinished and unrefined.

When we checked in with the Excellence club, it was yet to open so being in the club was not an asset on this trip. While the Excellence rooms next to the beach are very beautiful, they are yet to be complete, most have many things missing. Including mirrors in the bathrooms, the minibar, batteries in the tv's and many other small items. We had instances where the lights would just go out for no reason. These small things though make an ok resort a great resort in the end.

The Spa which was yet to be completed has some good masseuses there, we had massages but there was only two rooms available for 4 people at the time so we had to share rooms. This was not too much an issue, but the constant jackhammering on top of us was. The speakers weren't into the spa yet so there was no peaceful music to prevent that noise. This is very much the same as the ERC spa, and when complete will be a great asset.

The restaurants are still experimenting, we only had our experience at the lobster restaurant. The food was good, not great, but the service was good. I look for good service even as much as I do the food, and it was very good.

The only thing that concerned me drastically was the beach. It seems that the tractor that cleans the beach was not there as of yet so the seaweed was everywhere. While they will have a great setup, the seaweed was stacked up everywhere. Needless to say this was not an appetizing sight for such a high class establishment.

At this point the management was gracious enough to know that all aspects of the resort was not there and they moved us to ERC. I believe that this gesture was a good choice by management as they want these individuals to come back, and I believe they will.

In the end I think that this resort will be a big hit. They have 90 percent of the resort complete, but that 10 percent is the difference between a good 3 star hotel and a 5 star hotel. Personally my wife and I will be back next year for our anniversary, which will be in October/November time frame. By then this resort will be a jewel of Cancun.

The Excellence Playa Mujeres is excellent

from SimoneCanada
We arrived November 11 and the issues the previous reviewer have been somewhat resolved. The food and service is excellent. The hotel is larger than that of excellence punta cana and excellence riveria and there is another part II of excellence Playa Mujeres being built right beside this property. The current excellence playa mujeres has 468 rooms, the one next door will have 488 rooms.

the golf course is beautiful, $170 US per round, $50 for club rentals. There are jaguers, a boa constrictor, parrots, lemur type animals, monkeys on the ground to view.

The staff are wonderful, the service fantastic. We've stayed at the Excellence Punta Cana twice and the Excellence Riveria three times. This new hotel continues the tradition of great resorts.

The beach is bad with weeds. They say this will be resolved.

The sand is wonderful, white. Great hotel.

Not Ready Yet, but will be very nice...

from CaitlinsMommy
We arrived at EPM on November 4th, just three days after they opened. The hotel was very nice, but we could see a lot of things that were not yet completed. The staff was great and they upgraded our room, which was beautiful. However, a lot of things were not finished yet there either... the mirror wasn't up yet, the window shade was not yet installed next to the jacuzzi bathtub, which makes it impossible to use because it's situated right by the big picture window at the balcony), there were no batteries in the TV remote, etc. After we checked in, we walked around to check out the rest of the resort and discovered that none of the pools were heated (4 were advertised to be heated) and the water was too cold to swim. The resort appeared to be nearly completely empty - we just saw a few people down by the pool. Neither the spa nor the gym were open yet and several of the restaurants were not yet open and weren't scheduled to be opened during the duration of our stay. Since we were not yet unpacked, we went back to the front desk and requested a transfer to the Excellence Riviera. They were extremely cooperative, made the arrangements, and even paid for our taxi. We had a great stay at the Excellence Riviera. The food, service, and facilities were all first rate.

I believe the EPM will be great too... it just needs a little time.
