Day 10 - Williams to Las Vegas

We left Williams, Arizona this morning, headed for Las Vegas. Passing through Kingman, we ended our trip west on Route 66. By the time we got to the Hoover Dam it was 104 degrees F. Damn hot, if you ask me. We also had to go through a police checkpoint before we crossed the dam - damned security checks. Since we had previously learned almost everything a person could know about the Hoover Dam and its construction from the History Channel, we decided against taking the tour. We continued on th...

Day 11 - Las Vegas

This morning, we slept in for the first time on our trip. After grabbing a quick lunch at the food court, because we slept through breakfast, we played the slots at Excalibur for a little while. Then, we went on the time-share tour. We took a shuttle bus to their office where we were assigned our own personal sales woman. She chatted us up about where we were from and what we did, and seemed impressed by our level of education. After explaining all of the benefits of "owning" a time share as ...

Day 12 - Las Vegas

After a long night, we again slept in and took long showers. Arriving a little late for breakfast, we had brunch at the buffet at Excalibur. Did you ever hear my chocolate pudding story? If so, you know exactly why buffets should be avoided (if not, ask, and I shall tell). However, we had been told that buffets in Las Vegas were the best - they were wrong. Is it that hard to wash vegetables before they're served, or use fresh vegetables, or not cook them until they are mush? Apparently so. Th...

oooof

U could say this day was a bit of a write off for me. Got up around 5pm, Fiona had already been out during the day going aroud the shops. Headed over to the new orleans casino for a bit. Then headed over for a buffet at the Excalibur hotel, was ok - just like a school dinner... Today is thanks-giving over here, asked quite a few americans whats it all about and no one knows.... Off to bed early, got an early bus and train over to San Fransisco

More Las Vegas

Drove down to the Luxor Casino late this morning. The Luxor has an Egyptian theme going, with a huge black glass pyramid, and a big fake Sphinx out the front. After taking some photos we hopped on the free monorail that connected to the next Casino up, The Excalibur (complete with a medieval shaped castle, it looked more like Disneyland to us). Having read in guide books about the free magic show & free fire-breathing Dragon animatronics out the front, this casino was high on our priority lis...

Las Vegas and my first Greyhound Bus Experience

I changed my flight this morning to the same as Elle's from LA to Fiji as she mailed to say she had booked her tickets. Yeah! I said goodbye to Kirtsy and Amanda but we didn't exchange contact details, and believe it or not we actually bumped in to each other a few weeks later at the Bay of Islands in New Zealand! I went for another all-you-can-eat buffet for 5 quid - delicious, al my vitamins and 5-a-day fruit and veg in one hit. I took the bus to the bottom of the strip not realizing it was...

Viva Las Vegas

We arrived in Las Vegas about 2.00pm, after driving across a desert past a massive solar plant which must has been the size of 40 football pitches! There is no slow introduction to Vegas. It just hits you!! Desert then Vegas what a contrast! When we parked the car, you could tell it was really hot as even with full air con inside the car was really warm. Getting out of the car was like walking into an oven (120f). It was so hot and the sun so strong that even carrying the cases 200m to the ho...

Vegas Again. We Won!!!!

Lola (our best friend) told us that going back via Vegas was the fastest route and also having received an email from Excalibur enticing us back with a special deal of $28 a night (we pay more than this for camp sites!!) We couldn't say no!! When we checked in we even got upgraded!! Our room was much nicer this time! It had a large plasma screen, granite work tops & luxury towels in the bathroom. We slept in the following day and walked the strip to Bellagio (It’s a beautiful hotel)...

From City of Angels to City of Sin

After some great days in Los Angeles we headed for Las Vegas, Nevada to get some new and different impulses. We picked up a rental car at Los Angeles Airport on the morning of November 30th - a brand new Ford Focus 2007-model at a very decent price. Now for the scary part: the Los Angles traffic. But as with everything else you get used to that as well and, in spite of eight lane freeways and heavy traffic, we got through this challenge safe an sound. The drive from LA to Las Vegas is about 4...

On our way to Monte Carlo Casino

Walking through the Excalibur and NY NY Casinos Instead of going street side right away. I knew there would be more to see if we walked through the connection to the Excalibur. There is a nice indoor path that leads between our casino and theirs. On our walk we found a Krispy Kreme, a 2 for 1 Buffet (2 - 6 pm), a store full of dragons, and a confusing casino. Eventually we found our way outside and across the pedestrian walkway that leads across the street to NY NY. We decided we had time to ...

Excalibur Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked a package and was supposed to stay at the San Remo in my (excellent deal) package, well they had been over booked because of several conventions going on all the same weekend, so we got switched to the Excalibur. We had an excellent stay. There was a fantastic veiw from our room of the strip. Across the street was MGM Grand and Tropicana, next to us on one side were The luxor and Mandalay Bay, the other side had New York, and a short tram ride or walk (we chose to walk) were many more of the famous casinos, one right after another. The only thing we ended up driving to was Freemont Street, at night. The staff was helpful, and there was an ironing board and iron in our room. We had a standard room, and it was clean, and well kept up. It was not 'luxurious', but it was also a standard room. We chose not to upgrade, because we were not planning on being in our room much anyway. There were about 200 people all trying to check-in at the same time, but they had signs all over to direct convention guests to a designated spot, it made it much less hectic and we didn't have to wait for our turn. Since the line for non-convention guests was only about 3 people long. We were in our room within minutes. I would stay here again.

Think before you book

I stayed in this hotel thinking that i will be close to all attractions on the strip. Well that was not the case. Anyway, how would you feel if you are spending 2 hrs stading in the queue just to check in. Rooms are okay, though no bath tubs at all. Iron was not available. Remember that if you are going with a kid, never go to these hotel where you cannot get warm milk. No one is ready to warm up the milk for you even you buy from them. would you believe that we faced this problem after we already got warm milk once, later the same shop inside this hotel says that it is against the poilcy? i wonder how come all of their employees are not aware about the policies. I guess i should have stayed at Circus Circus which later i decided to cancel and moved to this hotel. My next visit stay will be either at Bellagio or Circus Circus ( if i am going to travel with a kid).

Fantastic

We resently renewed our vows at the Excalibur and it was the best time we had.The service on the casino floor was pretty good the buffet is the best we have had.The entertainment for the children is far beyond compare. The wedding chapel people were very friendly and went out of their way to help us out. This is far one of the best hotels on the strip.

El crappo

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed in Excalibur. To start with; there was a line of about 30 people just to check in.When I made reservations, they, of course did not say that there was a way to check in without standing in line for a half hour.

Got to the room. What a depressing dump!

I;ve stayed in motels that were nicer and cleaner.

Did the tourist thing; dinner, shopping, show and came back to take a shower. The bathroom was NOT clean because there were pubic hairs in plain view by the shower! Disgusting! When I told the manager in person, no apology just why did YOU take so long to complain. I was VERY upset at about $100 a nite and to be treated like this. SO, what did they do. They sent someone to clean the room at night!!

I requested compensation for the dirtiness and had to speak up LOUDER so that she would give me 50% off which it wasn't worth $20!

I think that that hotels such as this should be reported to the Better Business Bureau.

Loved staying at the castle.

I have stayed at Excalibur so far twice and will be staying there again very soon. I have been there with my family and also have stay there with my sisters, sister-in-law and daughter. Love the Tourament of Kings and the convience to the MGM, New York New York and the Luxor. Love the casino, don't have a problem getting service if I need it. I have not had any problems checking in or out. Love the rooms.

When in Vegas, spend your Knights somewhere else

We spent 4 nights here recently. Rooms are OK, could be cleaned a little better. The staff seems not too concerned with even basic customer service. We booked 2 mos. prior to our trip, and to our surprise, we realized that we had been billed the wrong amount for our room(their favor). We also found out that they had run the improper amount on not one, but two credit cards. We were charged two and a half the proper price. My wife was up every morning at 6 A.M. trying straighten this out between our bank back east(long distance charges and hotel telephone surcharges)and the front desk. After spending our first 4 days trying to correct this, it was finally rectified. Throughout the entire process, we were spoken to and treated as though we were children by the front desk staff.

we also received a call at 6 A.M. on our second mornig from housekeeping requesting that we get out of bed and check our closet and bathroom for leaks. What a wonderful time we had while having to do the staff's jobs for them. I highly reccommend to anyone that they consider staying just about anywhere but here while in Las Vegas

What a mess

from A TripAdvisor Member
What is a hotel to do ?? My wife and I recently stayed at the Excalibur on a Wednesday night and everything went well. We left the area Thursday morning for business and

were to arrive back in Las Vegas Saturday night. Prior to leaving we checked to be assured our reservations at the Excalibur were confirmed and were told yes. But then on

Saturday we were told that no they had been cancelled. But not to worry said the counter lady we have plenty

of rooms available and at that same rate too..Then why did the lady behind the counter need to retrace why those reservations were cancelled and look for blame while wewere waiting at the front desk ? We were tired, hungry, and eager to donate money to the casino but instead stood at the front desk for 45 minutes while this lady and manager by phone as we were told hunted through records looking

for that infamous "WHY" . Frankly we didn't care why and just wanted a room. This was something they could of checked on later or at least after we had been cared for.

Next time I believe we will just find a better managed hotel and scratch Excalibur from our wish list. We also will inform all future patrons heading that way to avoid this establishment. The two of us think New York, New York or the Luxor were very very nice...We will see them OFTEN....

Ok ... a little outdated...

from A TripAdvisor Member
You get what you pay for... This hotel is a little outdated... Wouldn't be suprised if its one of the next to be torn down and rebuilt. It's not bad, but doesn't really compete w/the properties surrounding it. The pool is the nicest part, they do have a very large pool area, great for kids. This is a hotel to take the young ones too, they have a large game room, and not a very large casino. Also have puppet shows next to the buffet and is geared more towards children in my opinion. The rooms are outdated, and are in need of some new decor.

No bad, reasonable price

from A TripAdvisor Member
My daughter and I stayed at Excalibur and had a good time. The McDonalds on the hotel's lower level was really great, it worked out fine for breakfast if you don't want full service. We also went to the dinner show it was alot of fun. Some bad items: Only showeres no tubs. The air conditioning unit in our room was a little noisy. If you have to check out don't do it close to 11 a.m.! the lines are EXTREMELY long (we didn't) Good points: Staff was friendly, rooms were clean and reasonable. Rooms in the Tower away from the pool were quieter, no kids.

Great place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a wonderful time in Vegas .We have three children that loved the pool with water slides and waterfalls. This is a great place to stay nice and clean and the housekeeping service is great. Will stay here again.
