Vaux le Vicomte and Seaux

... plays and wine it still has that effect. Stairs and water features reveal themselves as you walk through and descend into the garden. Vaux le Vicomte was one of those that we had learned about in history but until you not only see it but you really experience it you have no idea how powerful it is. From the terrace right off the house it looks like a flat relatively short walk to a water feature at the end of the axis that sits in front of a slightly slopping ...

A Crazy Lady and Paris Part Deux

... that maybe I shouldn't have eaten on the sly during the day since it was Ramadan after all. This could be Allah exacting his revenge for my transgressions. Maybe Air France should play some of those Allah Akbar preflight prayers to appease him. All I know is that when 3/4 of the people in the gate are visibly upset over some crazy lady's diatribe in Arabic, it's time to take note. The security guards did nothing about it and just pawned her ...

I love holiday weekends

... is buried. After reading War and Peace, I feel like I must pay homage to the antagonist and actually go inside, and hopefully time will allow me to. Then we reach friday. Fete day. No School. YAY. I had a very nice day yesterday. We finally got to the Garnier Opera House which is the Opera House that the Phantom of the Opera was set in. Super Cool! There is even a lake underneath the building, but unfortunately, we were ...

First half of the week

... library which has a huge foreign language section with literature from all around the world in all different languages. I wish that I could stay in Paris just to have access to all the resources here! I did some homework there and then met up with my French friend Jeremy for coffee. Monday was fairly low-key except that as I was rushing to get to a lecture in the evening the heel on my shoe broke and I slipped in the middle of the street. I was so surprised to have fallen ...

Weekend in Paris

... this guy, while he roamed around the main road (which was just people as well) and picked out his next victim. Their faces were hilarious! We then walked past a subway...and they had cookies! For anyone that doesn't know, I love their white macadamia nut cookies. I have only seen 2 or 3 Subways since I have been here-but this was the first with cookies. It made my day! Ok, minor detail. We then jumped back on the metro and went to the Arc de ...

PARIS

... see the city lit up at night, which was amazing. although i would advise not to eat a chocolate crepe before engaging in such a climb. the eiffel tower is every bit as romantic as everyone claims. the way it illuminates the city is incredible. today was a much more relaxing day. we had to switch hotels again this morning. our hotel is now in the montmarte district. so we took a stroll ...

Musée du Louvre

After Notre Dame, we made our way to the famous Louvre Museum, a very impressive and gigantic facility. We were there three hours and only saw a fraction of the collection. We paid the obligatory visit to the Mona Lisa, which had a security detail on the order of a President. Afterward, we ran into two of Maria's friends from Nottingham. Quite amazing to bump into someone you know in the largest museum of the largest city in a foreign country.

In Paris, never say Here Comes ze Germans!!

Hey guys, Brad and John here, saying Hello from Paris, our first stop in continental Europe! Due to the fact we are in an internet cafe and its quite expensive, this journal entry will be on the shorter side. Also, no pictures yet, but you better believe we took some good ones and we will put them up in a week or so when we get to Germany... We saw all the famous sites here, so i wont elaborate on how cool and awesome every one was. Notre Dame, Arch de ...

Mom's Paris Experience, Days 1, 2, and 3

... I threw myself on her like no one else. I didn't want to let go. I was able to hold back tears, but not the smiles. FORGET THAT! This is my MOM we are talking about, I was way too excited. We stood there hugging for a long time. After all the slobber, we made our way to cash our traveler's checks, made some phone calls to the states, and reserved a shuttle to the hotel for a really great price. We were sooooo tired. Poor mother was passed out ever chance she got, and the ...
