Travel Blogs from Killarney
... next stop after the hiking trail was to a place less than 10km from Killarney, called Kennedy Pet Farm. It was cuteness unlimited. I had my doubts going into this, but it is well run, well supervised, and hell, it's vacation so I'm going to let my animal welfare worries have a longer leash than usual (pun intended.) OMG. Baby everything. Lambs, calves, baby goats, piglets, baby bunnies, baby guinea pigs, baby chicks, ducklings, puppies. We could not hold piglets ...
... since we had to pay for then we turned around to get them. So we finally had our Veda and started back on our long walk.
We finally got to the house. It was a large mansion that over time switched many hands and eventually was gifted to the Irish government. At one time it was even a wedding gift, to persuade the groom to stay in Ireland where the brides family resided. It was located on around 10,000 acres. The land is now part ...
For the first time on this journey I spent the day feeling like I was one of the locals, and not the typical tourist.
The day started off with Indra, Jason and I exploring the town centre. We poked our heads into a few shops and strolled around the gardens of the Killarney National Park. It was a rough morning; we each had our own reason to be lazy. One of us was hung over, the other over slept, and ...
... seeker status. I think this is where our decision was pretty much made that perhaps Killarney was not going to be the best place for us to move especially considering the current economic climate. However, we still looked in every shop and cafe window that we came across for help wanted signs (there were not that many). After we had pretty much walked the town and also had a look in the outlet centre (didn't take us really all that long), we decided ...

October 22nd 2006.
If you want all of the expected things Irish on your holiday, then stay at this hotel, as long as you are prepared to share them with hundreds of other tourists, especially Americans. The hotel offers traditional entertainment nightly and is right in the heart of Killarney - step out of the lobby onto the main street and you have all the bars shops and restaurants you could wish for. The hotel gave us a room in the newest part of the building and we had total silence and peace in a very well appointed and comfortable room. The food was excellent and the staff were very good. We would certainly stay again.
This place is a disaster!
We were on a tour group through Brian Moore Tours. This two day stop was not a pleasant experience. First of all, the hotel is a fire trap. Second, the service is not at all good. We were quite disappointed by the hotel personnel such as the front staff who were rude, the wait staff who did not have any idea about the items on the menu and had no desire to have an English speaking person come to our aid, the breakfasts were fine but there was not enough wait staff and many of our group went without the warm breakfast, extra coffee, warm toast, etc. The poor bellmen were frantic in the morning getting the luggage (there was not enough help). We were very happy to leave this hotel.
What an ideal spot!
This little hotel in the middle of Killarney suited us perfectly. They were efficient, friendly and very pleasant. Our rooms were big with nice bathrooms [with tubs!], so that made all the difference. Despite the fact we were on a main street, the nights were quiet and peaceful. It was central to everything and the pubs and shops all around were wonderful. We were around the corner from the Tourist Information office and the people in there were just lovely. They booked us on a Ring of Kerry tour only 1/2 hour prior to it leaving. [It's a must do!]The bar downstairs is supposed to be great with Irish music and such, but the time of year we were there left a bit to be desired. Head down the street to the Grand for some pub fun and great music!
This is a good quality tourist hotel. Everything was clean and functional but not luxurious. The breakfast was good but there was no variation over the 3 nights that we stayed there. Still, the staff was attentive and clearly wanted to make sure that our stay was pleasant. The location is outstanding; Killarney is a small town and the hotel was in the center of things. This is a great town for shopping.
Would stay here again
We only stayed one night in this wonderful little town, but found the Eviston a nice place to stay. It is in a great location, the rooms were clean, and the staff was very friendly. Our room had no air conditioning, so it did get a little hot and stuffy, even with the open window. Other than that, I had no complaints and would definitely stay again.
Recommend without hesitation
The Eviston House was the second hotel we stayed at on our tour of Ireland. The hotel has a great location right in the center of town. The Danny Mann pub had great Irish music every night and the staff at the hotel couldn't do enough for us. Another hotel that I highly recommend.
Highlight of our trip to Ireland
We have just returned from our stay at the Eviston House hotel, I have to say having traveled around Ireland over 2 weeks this was definately the best place. The town of Killarney itself is stunning, with the national park just a short walk from the hotel. There is just so much to do in this lovely area and this hotel was the perfect base. Its sitauted in the town centre so no need for a car and we were able to book the day tour to go on the Ring of Kerry. The people of Killarney are very warm and welcoming to visitors. We stayed 3 nights and did so much in that short time, we will def go back to see more.
The hotel bar The Danny Mann had music each evening, though we found it a bit quiet, maybe cause the tourist season was only just starting and it is a very spacious bar, it can be cold too, though there was always a fire lighting, guess cause of its size. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. We had breakfast in the restaurant each morning which was always served by a smile.
We had the pleasure of getting loads of information from the receptionist who was from the local area and kindly pointed out what to do and see. so no time on wasted trying to figure the best places to see. She also recommended dinner in Treyvauds and Flesk. The food was superb in both places highly recommended.
We thouroughly enjoyed our stay in Killarney and in The Eviston House Hotel. The staff were very friendly and eager to help. Couldnt fault the service in the restaurant and from receptionist.
Great time at the Eviston
Stayed at the Eviston October 28-31, 2003. Good price, great location and good food but the Irish music in the 'Danny Mann Pub' was the highlight of our trip. Staff very friendly. Definitely recomended.
Looking forward to going back
The Eviston hotel is in an excellent location in the centre of Killarney, just around the corner from the Tourist Office and a short walk from both the Train and Bus Stations. Rooms are good, food excellent, and the Danny Mann pub in the hotel has excellent Irish Music every night. My recent trip to Killarney was my first in over 25 years and I found many improvements and the boat trip on the Lily of KillarneyWatercoach was great value for money and the guide was top class. O'Connors coaches offer excellent tours of the Ring of Kerry and Gap of Dunloe. I hope to go back shortly and I will would have no hesutation in recommending the Eviston Hotel.
