... delicious while we
listened to Pande and Sonam (who were also shivering) chanting.
There's something very warm and comforting about Tibetan chanting.
After breakfast, we started the drive toward Everest with the full
moon to guide us. Sunrise was surreal against the mountains – we
were all alone in this vast tundra. Unfortunately, I couldn't
appreciate the scene totally because after drinking a thermos of hot
water this morning I had to go to the ...

China, China rogthehatWe traveled to Huining county, in Gansu province and continued our interviews with local villagers. It was a great location to collect data, as it was highly arid, as compared to the villages we'd been in the previous weeks. There are numerous farmers who rely solely on rainwater collection for their water (for both domestic and agricultural uses!).
Huining County, Gansu, China jess.joyAll roads lead back to Lanzhou. We stayed in the university guesthouse, which was pretty cool, as I finally got some semblance of internet access, and talked to some students. Student one was an American studying economic development north of Gansu, one, a Canadian interested in teaching English, and a Kazakhstani girl who despises Chinese, but is learning it to appease her father. An interesting mix. Then, for an hour or so I had a great Pidgin English ...
Lanzhou, China fourloves... out. My Singapore buddy sent me a map that has both Chinese and Pinyin. I just need to get it to school and have the Chinese English Teachers tell me where I've actually ridden to. That's a job for next week. I woke this morning to a beautiful warm and yellow sun in a huge cloudless blue sky and decided to point the front wheel south and ride ...
Baiyin, China eddakath... flock from everywhere to see this hill!' Or, 'Surely there is something over that hill that is worth visiting. Soon they'll blow the hill up and continue the road'. I went with this thought and on one occasion followed a little village track for an hour into the hills. Surely there was something out here for such a grand road to be built. I soon ran out of water and decided that ...
Baiyin, China eddakathHey Hey and a Big G'Day toya Whilst eating dinner I watched several things that amused me There was a huge crowd across the road watching this guy with his portable KTV thing. The stupid thing was, he was in the middle of the road singing and cars and buses were beeping him and had to try find a way around him. It was unbelievable the traffic chaos he caused. Strangely the crowd loved him and gave him heaps of money ...
