Udaipur, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi, Bodhgaya

So we have been in India for a month now, I can't believe it has gone so fast yet it seems so long. We have gone so far since I last blogged, and haven't really been able to get around to it. The last day in Ahmedabad wasn't all that bad. The last night we were there we were waiting for our train to Udaipur. We dropped off our stuff at the train station, and went to another movie. This one was pretty bad again, supposed to be scary but wasn't. When we got out there was a festival going on in ...

Week 3 Udaipur, Jaipur, Agra

Udaipur was wonderful. Set on the shores of a small lake, it is described by many as the Venice of the East, with beautiful buildings and the famous Lake Palace, a floating white stone palace where the James Bond film Octopussy was filmed. Many guest houses put on a showing of the movie every night. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a rickshaw driver named Bunty. He was genuinely kind and brought us to a guest house of his friend called Lake Shore. There we were given a beautiful "princess roo...

I got up fairly early to do some more packing. Yaarit as usual was comatose. Vanessa messaged me and asked me over for breakfast. I told her that I would be there after 9 AM because I was still finishing up some stuff. I got all my belongings together and strapped on my mobile home. As I was walking down the streets of Pushkar people would look at me and say 'Leaving'? Forgive me for being cynical...but for cryin' out loud...OF COURSE I'm leaving! You think I'd walk around with a 20 kilogram ...

First day in Jaipur

I woke up at 7 AM and had finished eating breakfast by 7:30. Rahul and I had set 7:45 as our pick up time for our Jaipur tour. At 7:40 I called him to double-check our arrangement. Turns out that one of Rahul's friend's had been in an accident and he was at the hospital with him. He said he would send a friend of his but I told him that the whole point of trying to go with him was that I now knew him and he also came recommended by someone else. I knew nothing about this other guy. We agreed ...

Jaipur - Day 2

At 7:30 AM Rahul showed up at my guest house to pick me up. He first took me to the pink city's main gate. He mentioned a bazaar tour that I could do but as I am really not that interested in buying anything here in India (aside from the essential 2 items I purchased for my camel safar in the desert) nor feeling any particular desire to be harassed non-stop for a few hours...I opted out. I got out of the rickshaw and snapped a photo of the gate and then we were off to Amber fort. As he pulled...

We got up ridiculously early at half 4 in the morning to get our train to Jaipur as the train time table changed on the 1st so we didn't know what time the train was going to leave only that it was around 6ish and be there 45mins before. We got to the train station at quarter past 5 to find out the train wasn't due until 6.40 which was pretty annoying. The train station was rank, there were huge rats running around everywhere and there was human poo all over the track as the toilets o the tra...

Jaipur

Jaipur is a city which is between the mountains, Pakistan is not far from there but the people seemed friendly with us. One of them was selling jewell and was a bit too friendly too be honest, we decided at last not to accept his invitation to his shop and party because we were scared not to come back... That was smooth anyway apart from the bus to go back to delhi which was a nightmare, took us 6 hours stopping every 30 min to every town on his way.... suxx

Into the Desert in the land of the Mahrajah's !!

Hey I got the 18 hour train from Mumbai to Jaipur over night on the 19th and arrived in surprising good shape and on time at one pm. Jaipur is about 250kms south west of Delhi and is the capital of Rajastan State. There is lots of tribal history over the years and the locals have fought each other and all powers for thousands of years. In one battle, the writing was one the wall for one tribe so all the women and children martyred themselves on a fire and the men charged out to meet the enemy...

... you looking at my sisters?) came in especially handy. The stress of the day, however, seemed to become some sort of memory once the group entered the temple complex and experienced the glow and glare of the Golden Temple. Here we only felt incredible hospitality and kindness from everyone we met. I returned there a few times in the next day, once for the sunset and then again for sunrise. At night, the temple glows with electric lights as ...
