... tail firmly planted between my legs, I made a beeline for Starbucks where I made use of their wireless service to send a sheepish email to my Mum, subject: Your daughter must learn to control her temper. Yes, the salesperson was extremely annoying, but I knew the real reason I had snapped at her was because I had been sick for 3 days, I was tired and the weather was ******. Not good reasons for losing one's temper.
Chengdu, Sichuan, China iolair... cub and get her picture taken. She was so happy to have come through on her promise to her grandchildren to get her photo taken with a panda bear, and promptly declared it was well worth the cash! We all agreed that the highlight of the day was seeing how excited she was, and the pictures were definitely breath-taking--that "baby panda" was huge!
... were surrounded by lots of tables and chairs. We left the temple and walked through the old style buildings. It was a nice walking area with lots of shops and restaurants! We walked back to the hotel and took a quicker, more direct route. We bought some Gatorade at a grocery store near the hotel. I hope this will make Bill feel better. I ran to the toilet, but do not have Bill's problems yet. Bill used the toilet and his situation has not improved... I left Bill to relax in the ...
Chengdu, Sichuan, China theresabill... Deborah. We found he and it was ok. We walked down to the bottom of the mountain/Buddha and were in awe. We walked back up through the beautiful forest and made our way away from all the Chinese tourist. I really "love" how China makes temples and religious things into a tourist factory. I know I'm a tourist but they really have a way of degrading sacred sites. There were shops inside of the temple, right next to Buddha. More to ...

Most days though the mornings are spent in school, then we get some cheap noodles or baozi(dumplings with meet inside) or jiaozi (noodles with meat inside) and come home. But homework is usually a couple of hours. Friday there was an end of the summer bash at the Irish bar, so I went to teach little kids months (which when I said yi yue ...
Chengdu, China bambbles... that has a park and some shopping. The area that we were walking through had all kinds of fancy tea and coffee houses and some small stands to buy art or souvenirs. This tea house had a painting of Michael Jackson on the wall. Next we found the park and walked around for a little bit. Since it was Sunday, there were a lot of people hanging out taking naps or playing cards. There were a couple of diffrent areas that had a ...
Chengdu, Sichuan, China tomlacey... area is now a big park with more teahouses, temples and pagodas. Time was pushing on and I took a taxi back to the hotel as it was now 7pm. I rested and then ate at a hot-pot restaurant just up the road. "What's a hot-pot restaurant?", I hear you ask. Well, Chengdu is in Sichuan province which is home to some of the spiciest food in the country. What they do in one of these places is bring along a choice of hot-pot - a very large bowl filled with scented oil and tons of chillies plus a ...
Chengdu, China glyn... a very long haul. The lady at the ticket counter pointed at some tiny figures on her computer screen, showing the trip would take 26 hours; departing Lijiang at 1:00pm and arriving in Chengdu at 3:00pm the following day. Big numbers indeed, but by this stage in my travels I didn't care. Planes, trains, autombiles; I'd seen them all, it was nothing a hardy sole like me couldn't handle and besides, the bus had beds. I'll just sleep the whole way, it ...
