Historical Traveler Reviews of Eva Faro

Good hotel

from andrewnicholas
The Hotel Eva is situated near the marina and close to the bus and rail staions in Faro. There is a selection of reasonable priced if average restaurants in the immediate vicinity, situated mainly in a pedestrianised area covering about six or seven streets. The resort is very quiet and frequented mainly by locals with visitors tending to opt for the wll known resorts further along the coast. There is one excellent beach - Playa De Faro - located near the airport - a one euro bus ride from the hotel. The hotel is clean, comfortable with excellent views from the marina side of the building. Breakfast is served in the panoramic restaurant on the top floor and I consider the food above average. I stayed in September when the hotel was very quiet - the bar in particular was almost empty and lacking athmosphere but the service and prices were very good. Reception staff are somewhat indifferent in terms of customer service. I would recommend this hotel for couples, groups or families but not for single travellers.there is a very pleasant poolside area on the top floor with superb views over the bay , just remember you are near the airport and some over fly noise can be expected but its not a major problem. Ideal for weekends or short breaks I would not recommend a long stay holiday here.Overall I rate it a very good hotel, reasonably priced and easy accessed from Faro airport.

Great location, comfortable rooms, lousy bacalao..........!!!

Arrived around 2115 for one night before flying out to the UK. Helpful reception staff and a very pleasant quiet room with the expected level of amenities. Was the last one in for dinner and possibly as a result had quite the worst salt cod I have ever experienced as my one and only course. Since it was obvious the restaurant was closing I did not bother to make a fuss but pointedly left 95% of it on my plate. There was no comment from the Maitre d' but he obviously noticed. Frankly I was too knackered to remonstrate as I was dead tired and needed to get to sleep. Breakfast in the morning co-incided with a glorious sunrise over the marina and consisted of possibly the best buffet I have ever seen. Excellent is faint praise for the spread. Checkout was efficient however there was no offer to compensate me for the awful dinner the previous evening other than to say I should have sent it back to the kitchen. Good advice except the kitchen would have been closed. I consider the Hotel EVA to be rather overpriced but its setting, if you get a room overlooking the marina, is fabulous. On the other hand if the room faces the other way it is just another city centre view over rooftops and tower cranes. Considering EasyJet is supposed to be a low cost airline they pick some high cost hotel partners. Perhaps their commission makes a bit of profit that the air fare does not....!!!!

Less quality than I thought

Plus: marvellous situation at the small yacht harbour and very proach to central bus station and train.Rooms clean but average, exept for the view.

Staff in the not cosy restaurant rather desinterested, at the reception ill-informed concerning the reason and time frame hours of extreme noise (music) at the harbour very near by at the weekend of the days of liberty. Impossible to sleep before 1.3o am the next day(s)! And no information about this to the client at his booking or arrival.

Pool closed. Not an hotel for singles. Most non personal, routine.

Nice staff, but...

We flew out of the Faro airport and needed to spend one night in town. Hotel Eva is situated overlooking the marina and the plaza. Nice location in an okay town. The hotel was clean and the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful but the hotel reminded me of a faded star. You could tell that at one time it was a nice hotel, but much of it looks like it needs a facelift.

It was good for our needs at the time.

Great Value and Location

We booked our stay through Easyjet paying just over £50 per night for a double room with breakfast. We stayed for 2 nights at the start of our 10 day holiday and 1 night at the end. In between we went camping near Tavira (another story).

The hotel is in an excellent spot right next to the bus station (we got the bus from the airport and to and from Tavira). It is also very central for exploring Faro with bars, cafes, resteraunts and shops all close by.

The rooms were of good size and in good condition with a nice bathroom. On both occasions we had a balcony with a view of the marina which was lovely. I agree with the previous reviewer that the pool area was a bit tired. However, the pool bar was open during our one visit to the pool area (although the part where you borrow towels was not).

There was a fridge in the room for the mini bar items but these had to be requested from the reception if you wanted them. We found it a bonus that it was empty and used it to keep our beer and water (purchased form the supermarket at a much reduced price) nicely chilled!

If returning to Faro, I would not hesitate to stay again at Hotel Eva.

Not so many tourists

from StraightDownTheLine
Myself and my wife stayed @ the Eva for 6 nights in May 2005, It`s a good clean comfortable hotel with a great view over the marina (if you request a room on that side of the hotel).

We just ate breakfast there which was fine, a selection of hot or cold in the usual continental style, breakfast was served until 1030hrs so this allows a lie in if you so require .

Staff were pleasant and helpfull, our bathroom had a great shower (always a bonus) plus all the usual fittings and the room was cleaned on a daily basis.

There is a swimming pool on the roof which is accompanied by vintage sunbeds the area generally seems a little tired there was also a pool bar which was not in use this was a little annoying as the only other bar (in the reception) did not open until 1700hrs so it was impossible to purchase a drink in the hotel during the day (that cannot be a good thing). If you like a tipple and you like value for money then don`t make going to the basement bar a habit as the short measures are a little shy compared to usual continental measures (you don`t have to walk far to get a decent shot),but generally a decent hotel not many tourists more buisiness types. there.

Nice views

from fishamble
Nice people at hotel in our early spring visit. You need a room overlooking marina, if possible. Republica restaurant (right by hotel) and restaurant in Cathedral square recommended. Didn't fancy prices of hotel restaurant, and not too impressed with quality of breakfast ingredients altho' choice was wide enough. Just right for a long weekend strolling about, if you are (like us) middle aged and a bit lazy...

Fantastic Faro

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel Eva excellent, perfect postion, with marina view from balcony (specifically booked as one side of hotel on main street) rooms very clean and comfortable, all staff friendly and pleasant.

Breakfast lots of selection, but only downside was an evening meal in the restaurant, not an enjoyable event, food not good, however downstairs bar and menu much better.

Loved Faro, very characterful. Took the Island Tour very good.

Loved the storks and spotting the nests in unusual place.

Gypsies on marina bit of a nuisance apart from that, peaceful place.

Would visit again

Excellent Hotel

Stayed here recently for 3 nights and was well looked after. Staff are very helpful in suggesting where to go and what to do, booking hire cars and golf etc. Room was a decent size and had a large balcony with an excellent view of the city and water. Modern and clean. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Faro !!

Fantastic Top Class Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel Eva is a lovely hotel offering beautiful views and an excellent location. The staff speak good English and are very professional. Our room had a balcony overlooking the harbour and Ria Formosa National Park, excellent for birdwatching. The hotel is close to the airport and train station but noise is not a problem.
