A long road to a Ghost Town

          ... Its a great
shame as i really was looking forward to that road cut into the cliff but it
will just have to be another day.

          Tomorrow
I will make my way to Lake Genèva and take a look at a miniature railway that I
have always wanted to see there and simply head north and see where I get to.

          These
last two weeks or so certainly have been a magical adventure and i just hope
there will be many more to come.

          Good
          night from the ghost town

... We started out through the French Savoie and the cheese-making area of Beaufort. A road closure forced us on another interesting “deviation” on the way to Flumet. Morning clouds continued to threaten, but held off all day for another great ride in the Alps over more passes, including a stop at the Italian border at Col du Petit St. Bernard. After a wonderful ride down the backside of the mountain, the road followed a river valley ...

... produces salt today and has over 150 miners employed. The tour started with a short walk into the mine entrance and through a few caverns which previously were a reservoir used for leaching salt out of the rock. After an audio video presentation our group proceeded to the train. Now when I say train, that's kinda like calling my Mini a Chevrolet truck. This thing was a tiny wee matchbox car of a train only just big enough to squeeze into while still ...

          Au revoir Jill, Bonjour Chillon

... from the write up in the region guide. I mean, it was ok, but just didn't grab any of us really. A bit of a cat n fiddle. It was pretty down by the lake though. Hard not to be with that amazing turquoise water and the obligatory white swans serenely floating around.

As the train only ran hourly back to near our hotel we decided to take a Paddlesteamer ferry back to Chateau Chillon and then walk to our hotel from there. What ...

... games. I took a couple of photos, the highlight of this city was a pair of swans and their babies getting swept away in the current as they tried to swim through it with the mountains and the rain in the distance. We actually got bored at montreux, which was a good thing. Now we are pretty motivated and enthused to see some new places and do some long walks ...
