Clarastrasse 43 Basel, Basel, Switzerland, CH 4005 , 41-61-690-80-80
From Vaduz, we crossed into Switzerland and drove clear across the country to Basel in the northwest. Basel straddles the Rhine river at the point where Switzerland meets both France and Germany. Though only a mid-sized city, Basel feels very cosmopolitan and has a very diverse population. It is one of the big economic and industrial cities of Switzerland, and clearly benefits a lot from its strategic location. We stayed two nights at the Mercure hotel in the city center. I had business in Ba...

Aarau, Aargau, Switzerland beaandroger... fairgrounds to check things out.

In Münsterplatz we rode the big wheel and got a nice view of the city lights reflecting on the Rhine. After our ride we just hung around a stall selling gluwein, drinking and chatting. Everywhere we went was crowded with people in good spirits and children full of sugar and excitement. Herbstmesse is a fun time in Basel!
Basel, Basel, Switzerland travelingdiva... trunk and backseat, we said goodbye. It was a bit sad for me but mom had a really hard time. This is somewhat amusing as when I moved here, she didn't shed a tear when I left, but cried like a baby when Lincoln left later when my sister came to visit.

Anyway, finally they got in the car and I joined the man by the exit so we could wave them along the way. The entire trip mom and dad joked about how happy they are I was with them because without me they just get ...
Basel, Basel, Switzerland travelingdivaToday is the opening day of the Basel Tattoo. The event kicks off with a parade through the city centre in the late morning. We got to a good viewing point quite late as we were trying to get around the crowds and ended up catching the tail end of bagpipers and marching bands winding past the rathaus. It didn't help that it was so incredibly crowded that short people like myself could not see over the rows and rows of heads in front of me.

Being at the end ...
Basel, Basel, Switzerland travelingdiva... with passes around their necks and instruments. so we probably fitted in quite well.

As we entered the bar we saw many Scalliers already half cut, there was a calm but nice atmos around the bar. Neil and Sue were perched with their laptop looking at team snaps of Scally cars. It turned out we only got 35 points in that task. A couple of lads filled up stools and joined us........Bob and Kevito were their names, with a team name of ...
Basel, Basel, Switzerland lawlessbrothers... with costumes and masks and bands. Damn near froze standing still for that long, but I had a good vantage point for the pictures so I wasn't going to move for fear of losing my spot. After the parade we got stuck into the gluhwein and some hot food then went back to the hostel for a hot shower, then out for dinner. We went to a local brewery that had a restaurant incorporated and had such a good time that we made it a regular while we were there.
Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany danandrozDay after tomorrow we'll start our 4 month trip. Our flight is scheduled for Monday evening from Basel to London to Bangkok to Sydney to Brisbane. Now as to Bangkok, we do not know yet, whether Qantas will actually take us there. They consider to take the flight via Singapore instead, seeing that even today both Bangkok airports are squatted by ...
Basel, Switzerland crazyswiss... Roesti, basically hash browns with ham and a fried egg on top. I also tried a little of the Beef Tartar that Linda ordered which I found surprisingly good, with a funky texture. Delish! Switzerland is also known for the Alps, and although I have never been skiing, I decided to take advantage of the scenery as a tourist. I took a train southeast to the Jungfraujoch region. The Jungfraujoch Mountain is 11,333 ft and the train ...
