Andalucia, Spain

... to Ferdinand and Isabella in the Alhambra, and we all know how that turned out. Granada's only downside is that the city is built on two huge hills, not great for a stroller, even our 4WD Bugaboo. After Granada we drove to the opposite coast to Alicante. Luis and Alyssa (who went to Visitation with Meg) are both Spanish professors at the University of Iowa, and they take advantage of their schedules to stay with his ...

... the geometric designs which when put together make an even larger and more intricate pattern. We went to a Flamenco show to see what all the fuss was about, and now I understand! the men have some pretty speedy, fancy footwork, and by the end of one number they are pouring with sweat!. Its all very dramatic with a lot of intense facials and loud stomping and clicking of the castinets, and the ladies dresses float and fly around ...

We try to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, like most Spaniards do. Few things are open from about 2-5 anyway. Evenings are the ...

Today we have been relaxing at the campsite and enjoying the sun and are now sitting in an internet cafe in Seville writing this. This evening we plan to have a picnic in the park before going to a bar to see some flamenco. Hope you are all well, please keeping the messages coming. Lots of love xxxxxx

Spanish Women and Starbucks!!!!

We took another 4 1/2 hour hellacious bus ride to Seville, Spain. I´m now closer to the holly grail of this trip...Spanish women! and walking through town, I´m not disappointed :D We spent most of the day seeing the sights of Seville (a beautiful city) but I won´t bore you with the boring details. A few notables: - Spanish ...

"You got beaten by a little girl"

... the race Pedro snuggly squeezed into his go-kart, tightened his helmet and let his mind wander towards topping the podium. The race started with Pedro flailing far behind the rest of the boys. So much so that the rest of the pack overtook him on two occasions. Lagging at the back for the first race Pedro vowed to make it up in the second race. The first one was only a practice, but because he ...

... there's no need to go get drinks, which I enjoy. Drinks in clubs cost 7 Euro or more anyways. Plus, everyone I saw was sufficiently inebriated already. For instance, Veronica kept going on about how I'm her brother and she loves me. Hopefully they have their party soon, Semana Santa is halfway over with! Although tomorrow night is supposedly the peak parade time. Tomorrow during the day, however: Futbol in the park!!

Settling In

... before I called it a night. They headed out at about the same time since they had touring to do the following morning, but I had class at 9am, so getting home any later than 3:30am was just absurd. Regardless, even as my eyes were drooping in class the next day, it was totally worth it. I don't think my eyes have ever literally crossed while trying to focus on a page, but that's what they kept doing all class. Even when I tried to keep my eyes open, they'd drop shut on their own account ...

Sevilla - Our Visit with the Cloistered Nuns

The new express trains in Spain are like a dream. We were zipped to Sevilla from Madrid in style in only two hours. We had planned to go to Sevilla when we came to Spain, a recommendation from our cousin Jen, but before we left we mentioned this plan to our friend Father Dominic. He is a Tanzanian priest working in Seattle and he told us that he has a young cousin there who was a nun in a cloistered ...

Death in the Afternoon

... the place. Chad took pictures from every angle and we listened to everything the audioguide illustrated. He even stopped to read the information posted after we listened, and it was in Spanish! Clearly, I got antsy way before Chad, so I sat in one of the pews in front of a beautiful alter while Chad took more pictures. When he joined me, he began the pep talk of how we would be going to a lot more cathedrals and museums, yada, yada... During this talk, I noticed a tourist walking ...
