... candy and flowers ("Kamillo" and "Trushia"), but we also learned the names and a few lyrics of the 3 famous German songs we heard playing all weekend. The songs have now been on repeat on all of our Itunes for the past week... By the end of the parade, we boarded the bus back home with a bag full of candies, chocolates, and flowers.

Although we arrived back to Freiburg to a week full of midterms and deadlines for papers, our carnival weekend made it totally worth it.

... and hundreds of horses too! Everything was so colourful and the crowd was so loud and excited, it was a great atmosphere! We stayed through the entire parade - which lasted around 5 and a half hours! - and enjoyed every minute! It was a long day, and we did get rather cold, but it was entirely worth it to experience a proper German tradition!

Here are some facts my Mummy sent me afterwards - it is shocking just how big the carnival really is!

... to Rothenburg - a gorgeous walled town which commenced life in 980. So difficult to comprehend being so old. Being walked the battle stations along the wall were very interesting. People still reside in the town - though the houses are now beginning to show wear and tear - which is understandable. Rothenburg is home to a famous Christmas store - Kathe Wohlfaht - was incredibly decorated and so many tempting Christmas ...
