... 20 minutes for drinks to arrive then another 30 minutes for the meal to arrive but no burger for Monica!!!! She cancelled her meal, damn embarrassing! Klaipeda is nothing like Vilnius, plainer looking houses even in the Old Town. Tomas said "there is nothing here to see" but Lana has relatives to catch up with so we have to meet them. Back to the apartment to wait for Tomas to return and hear about his first day at the timber mill. Tomas returns ...
... the car, what a ripoff! So we drove to the White House, once the summer residence of the President of Lithuania. Laimonas & I had a quick dip in the lake, very clean water & about 20C. We went to Witches hill where artists have carved all these creepy statues of tree gods and origin stories etc. ...
Today we leave Lithuania after touring the town of Klaipeda. The town tour is brief but there is some interesting history about a demolished church bring rebuilt and a statue in the city square that Hitler had removed when he addressed the populace. This area had been occupied by Teutonic Knights, Prussian traders and Russians before reverting to Lithuanian rule. The bus took us east and then north through rural countryside to a national park with an attractive lake. This area ...
