Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

I found a little wine bar and had minestrone and pasta with prawns with zucchini. I drink 1/2 a glass of wine as I am worried I would not be able to navigate Thomas on these roads ... Which is disappointing, as at this point I could have used a glass or two! Let's hope tomorrow is ...

... looked like it belongs in a circus that drove us around Bellagio. It was a very funny little thing and were just about the only dorks on it! We did a spot of retail therapy and mum purchased a new suitcase, as the one we picked up in Rome had died and was ready to be blown to pieces by Mum with a grenade; or of course thrown into the lake! Bellagio had a very strange collection of stores selling weird things like china dolls and antiques, porcelain statues and ...

Day 290 5 hrs, 6.1 kms Today my Alps Superhike will come to an end--for now. I've now created a trail of footprints connecting Varese, Italy with Mals, Italy traversing Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria... more than 1,000 kilometers of walking (so technically it's now a "Megahike"). And what are my thoughts? I want more! I'm already scheming of how I might stretch out this hike all the way from France to Slovenia, doing a couple of big loops through Switzerland so I ...
