So, after all the waiting we did, we are actually in Germany! The plane wasn't very comfortable, and a couple of us were forced into seats that didn't recline (making sleeping hard, painful work) but we didn't crash and burn, so thats a plus! Yes! So magically, the flight managed to squeeze in over THIRTY extra people including us! It was supposed to leave at 2am, but it left around 4. There were even empty seats so that we could move and lay down/stretch out! Very nice.

We got to our next lock at 8.50 and found no lights on the lock at all. We went back and tried zapping the sensor but nothing happened. Checked the opening times and they were supposed to be 8.30 now we are back in France (technically Germany was on our left and France on our right, and the locks are now under French control). We waited until after 9 just in case but still nothing and nowhere to tie up! A man shouted to us “no power” so we ...

    Germany - week 2

FIFA championship Brazil v. Spain. I watched it on my last night in the Carl Duisberg Haus with Karine and her friend Lucas. They are both Brazilian, so obviously they were pretty into the game. It started at midnight and we stayed up until 2:30 watching Brazil (the under dog) kill Spain 3-0. They provided beer and I provided wine. We didn't have many dishes at our house so we sipped out of little ceramic espresso cups. Throughout the game we also talked about our ...
