Puno - 8.00 zjutraj - avtobusna postaja - cakanje - avtobus zamuja - nic nenavadnega.

La Paz, Bolivia mbrinsdonAs Tim mentioned in the previous post, we splashed out to get the most expensive bus available to bring us from Uyuni to La Paz, which gave us dinner on-board, an on-board toilet, not just one but two english-speaking hosts, and even breakfast. It was still not as good as the buses in Argentina, but at least someone is trying to provide comfort to those willing to pay for it, and it was certainly way better than all the other buses we've been on in Bolivia. So, we managed to get some sleep on...
La Paz, Bolivia timreisBlue: the colour of shimmering Lake Titicaca. Green: the colour of my face most of yesterday. We've just arrived at the Europa Hotel back in La Paz after a two day jaunt to the shores of Titicaca, "the highest navigable lake in the world". It was a bit touch and go whether we'd make it here as I spent yesterday shivering with high fever and experiencing unusually frequent bowel movements (sorry - my toilet habits seem to be making unusually frequent appearences on this blog, too). However in ...

I don't so much expect such a strong wind as I arrive at the Tiwanacu railway station. Well, I think no trains actually arrive there, because the Ferrocarril Transandina has been out of service for a good few years due to the terrorist attacks of the Camino Luminoso. Anyway, the station is well kept and provides with a tinge of authencity to the archeological site of Tiwanacu aka ...
Tiahuanaco, Bolivia translucent... pretty much joins on to La Paz), we thought we better stop for petrol before heading down to Oruro. The first couple of petrol stations we tried only had Diesel, this was not looking good. We found another which obviously had petrol judging by the queue. As we were also running low on cash, we had quite a discussion about how much of the cash should go on petrol. We decided on B60, but our dicussion was wasted anyway as when we got to the pump, we were only allowed a ...
Tiquina, La Paz, Bolivia 2ridesouth... as the witches market for all the potions and lotions the elderly ladies sell – the Spaniards regarded them as witches. However the significance of the area is laid deep within the Bolivian culture. The stalls sell miniature idols, usually made from plaster of Paris, and believers say that these idols bring them luck if they are received as gifts. So alongside these idols, miniatures of just about anything can be bought – houses, cars, trucks ...
Tiwanaku, Bolivia bourlingueurHere's the wonderful story of how we got to copacobana: 1. Bought our bus ticket from Arequipa to Puno. I knew that the buses all left in the morning and so instead of wasting a whole day in puno (a HOLE!) we took the 1am out of arequipa option. Of course we had to check out early and spent the whole day roaming the city entertaining ouselves. 2. Got to the bus station and sat in the waiting lounge ...
Copacobana, Bolivia tillysouthAfter we reached the frontera of Peru/Bolivia, our cab driver stopped, and dumped us out. We were just on the edge of the frontera, and I guess he couldn't cross into Peru. So, Waldo and I took a biketaxi, which stopped at migracion of Bolivia first, where I stamped out, and then carted us down the ...
