Yo. Well its official - farewell Turkey & bonjourno Italia. After nearly 7 weeks in Turkey I finally packed up and left early on Thu 28 on the Cesme - Ancona ferry. But not before I managed to sneak in a quick trip to the famous ancient city of Ephesus on the Wed. Fantastic place. Its best preserved ruin would have to be the famous Library of Celcus with IMHO a facade to rival that of the Sik at Petra - and thats not just the librarian in me talking - thought I wouldnt fancy applying the ol D...

... country or towards the north. Seems as though as soon as we passed the 5000km mark we haven’t gone anywhere except from ferry ports to train stations. I really want to see and explore, but I feel I’m fighting a losing battle. If we do head out, we’re just going to be miserable and not enjoy ourselves. What’s the point in that?

So I’m officially in mourning now. We’ve missed so much that I wanted to ...

... can turn to, pin hopes, dreams, tears and despair on. Fine. The Problem arises when people can no longer see. Due to being 'blinded' by their faith.
I have seen some churches here that most likely go back to the Stones Age, (yeah yeah I know maybe not that far) but upon entering some of these buildings, is like walking into a different world. A universe where to breath is either a blessing or a disturbance. I am ...

... overtakes you on bends and also crosses onto your side of the road going around the sharp bends on steep mountain roads.. including massive trucks. It was enough to keep anyone awake. We were heading for Elba but it seemed like a long drive. Tricked myself though but first aiming for Lake Tramiseno, then siena and then before we knew it we were at Piombino and about to board the ferry to Elba Island...

... headed back to the room after dinner, not feeling particularly social. I was feeling in need for another book, so bought one down at the gift shop. It was a Nora Roberts one..and had small writing, so seemed okay. I also bought 2 packs of cards, so we could play Phase 10 in our own room!
I started my book, Dan watched Prison break and we had a few hands of cards around 10pm. We went out to see how the Phase 10 rematch with Calvin and the gang was ...

Off to the beach today, that is pretty much all there is to do in Ancona. Beautiful day though. 30min bus ride to get to the beach. The water was amazing, bright blue with white pebbles.

Got a little burnt! Everyone at the beach was so tanned!!!! even the babies!!!

... vista of lumpy and spiky territory. Getting towards level ground again, we came down towards the dual carriageway at Bagni di Romagna and were relieved to spot a petrol station. It was only self-service and, though we were sure it took notes, we weren't quite sure how to operate it. Therefore, Paul ventured into the attached cafe and - in his words - "bowed" at the girl inside, informed her (in Italian!) that he didn't speak Italian, and ...

... the rest to you if you were to come here because there are too many information bits to write here anyway even if I remembered everything. =)

Next was the Sistine Chapel + Vatican Museum. Mmmm I skipped the Museum and most of the rooms that led to Sistine Chapel because I decided that I should not act like a arty buff when I truly am not. I am just not an art connaisseur even though I can appreciate the hard works, thoughtfulness and concepts. But surely it is more ...

Ancona!

Ancona Train trip from Rome to Ancona was one pretty ride. Tough I slept half of the way. Nice country side we passed citys, towns on the hills. I already felt the rythm of Rome so Ancone felt a bit silent and slow in the beginning. I thought there is not much to see but it turned out differently. Ancona had chilled out atmosphere where time slows down. Saturday, after refreshing rain, families got out with their children and the city woke up. Well, espressos are ones to wake up ...

Ancona - more than just another ferry port

... speak none but at least understand a few words, but they understood nothing. We couldn't complain, as we didn't speak any Italian, but it did make us assume that few English speaking tourists venture this way. Luckily they had rooms and checking into a hostel isn't too complicated. They only have single sex rooms, as some hostels do. Julius lucked out with a single and I got a dorm room all to myself. We had the terrible luck of ...
