... the castle, where I stop for coffee. It's very steep and my legs are feeling it. I carry on and eventually come out at tiny little lakeside town. It's a beautiful (though a bit difficult) walk with magnificent views of the lake from up high. More photos. Back down lakeside, I head back towards Varenna. ... That seems a bit odd. Not sure where the sand would come from. Probably just my eyes. We pass through lots of little villages which are very agricultural. It's so much more satisfying going by train than flying. It's not a cheap way to travel though. A Eurail pass would be the way to go if you're moving around a lot. The trains in Italy have been pretty good actually. I'm a little surprised. Although they're not suitcase friendly. They're not flat ...

... a long while but it had gotten dark and most of the stores were closed so it seemed rather sketchy. We definitely weren't near any Gucci or Prada store. The three of us decided we should try to get a cab and the first taxi Jeff flagged down told him he was on his way to pick up his mother. At least that guy has his priorities right.
