    ... photos from a platform at the top. The one next to it had to be shortened a fair bit soon after it was built, because it developed a serious lean to one side. It has more of an angle than the Tower of Pisa, but is still standing. In the 1400's it is estimated that Bologna was a medieval New York, with up to 180 brick skyscrapers, and there are still a couple of dozen left scattered around town.

    Today we had a lazy morning hanging out in the grounds of the BNB. We had a swim, the kids had a spa and Nick and I caught up on some reading. Oh and it was my birthday! I got coffee and toast in bed! And some gorgeous home made cards from the kids. After a slow start we took some rickety old bikes into town. It was really fun, kids on the back - only Ruby scored a helmet - she was very proud of this! The town is quite beautiful ...

    Today we woke up and it was pouring with rain! It rather put a dampener on our plans to go over to Murano on the ferry. We got absolutely soaked through on the way there and Ziggy had a massive melt down about something or other.     bakery / sandwich shop (I had a slice of pizza pomodoro and it was delicious),
