Historical Traveler Reviews of Ettington Chase Hotel & Conference Centre Stratford-upon-Avon

What a great find

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have just spent a very relaxing weekend at Ettington chase. The facilities are excellent value for money.

The buffet breakfast and leisure facilities are superb. I could not fault the staff they were both friendly and attentive. This is my first stay at Ettington chase and i will definatly be returning.

Beautiful Surroundings

I stayed at Ettington Chase for a weekend away and immediately upon arrival was impressed by the scenic grounds in which it is situated. The staff were all more than willing to help and the leisure facilities, food and overall atmosphere were all out of this world. I would definately have no hesitations in returning.

Institution in the middle of nowhere!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We found the hotel lacking in character and more like an institution. Our double bedroom was small, with the bed pushed up against one wall causing me to have to crawl up the bed to get in!

The breakfast was adequate but the restaurant impersonal with everyone sharing huge circular tables. On arrival we were told that the restaurant was closed for the weekend. Bar snacks were available in the bar area but tables to eat on were in short supply. We had to eat over the road at the Chequers Inn which fortunately saved the weekend as it was excellent!

The leisure facilities available were its saving grace, but if you were here for a romamtic weekend, forget it! Boring conference weekend? Perfect!

Clean, friendly and spacious.

Set in enormous, well-kept grounds, this hotel is actually a conference centre as well. It therefore lacks a little character, but is clean, friendly and has a swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi, as well as a therapy centre for massage etc. It is 5 minutes walk from the village of Ettington, where there are 2 nice traditional pubs, serving good food...one is Chequers and one is the White Lion.

Comfortable beds, clean, overly powered shower which kind of sand-blasts you clean, TV, tea and coffee making facilities (ie kettle and cups and spoons!).

Very nice buffet style breakfast.

Cost me £60 per night for a double room in Sept 2005.

Decent conference venue

from JCW
As a conference centre, which would seem to be its primary role, Ettington Chase is excellent: good facilities, good service, good food.

As a hotel? Less impressive. Bedrooms are relatively large, quite comfortable, but pretty spartan - think slightly-more-upmarket Travelodge, and you wouldn't be far wide of the mark. And the overall ambience (full of often large and loud conference groups) would certainly detract from it if you were travelling independently.

Great rooms & facilities, ambiance may disappoint the unwarned

This is a conference centre, with the good rooms and facilities of a plush modern hotel, but with the larger size and slightly impersonal ambiance of a conference centre. It is clean, well-maintained and decorated, with extensive lanscaped grounds.

We stayed one weekend night (without kids, I should say) and were very impressed, albeit we didn't eat in - we drove 10 mins to the Thai Boathouse restaurant just to the left of the A422 before it reaches the river bridge when entering Stratford.

Our room was in the large, brick-built accommodation block adjoining the old mansion. We liked being able to head straight into the accommodation block without having to pass through the reception, bar etc every time. The room was large without being huge, the en-suite was modern and functional, the bed was large and ultra-comfortable, the room was nicely furnished and well equipped with basic tea/coffee making (no minibar), trouser press, sat tv. Personally, I would only be disappointed with Ettington Chase if I was looking for some special romantic pampering (for that I would look to Rhinefield Manor nr Brockenhurst) and would consider it a good bet in all other cases.

We booked via laterooms, and got a bargain....as cheap as a lodge room, and with breakfast and leisure facilities included. It would have been a reasonable price at 2x what we paid.

It's useful to know in advance that the main gate is signed "Ettington Chase Conference Centre", particularly as the entry/exit barriers are controlled by intercom!

Great place to stay

We recently stayed at Ettington and had a fantastic time, excellent value for money considering all the amneities available and the brilliant breakfast. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and we will definately be returning

Excellent hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at this hotel for a weekend in October-04 and would highly recommend it for a relaxing weekend.

It's true that this hotel does have a slightly impersonal feel to it due to the sheer expanse of the place (it's huge!). However, you can't fault it for comfort and the amenities (pool, snooker tables, gym are superb). The breakfasts were out of this world, but expect to share your table with lots of others!

It's an easy 10-minute drive into Stratford-upon-Avon, so a good base for exploring the area.

Great staff - friendly hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is clearly geared towards conferences and as long as you take that on board this is a great hotel. The bar was not open when we arrived but they quickly and happily arranged drinks for us, the restaurant was not open on the Friday and Saturday evening which for us was not a problem as we had been warned that might be the case and we had planned to eat out anyway, however other guests that had come for a weekend leisure break were clearly disappointed. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable with large beds, the leisure facilities are wonderful and the breakfast is very tasty and plentiful. A good spot for exploring Stratford and the surrounding area but peaceful if you do not want to be in the hub of it all. Would I stay here again? Yes

Not Child Friendly!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Ettington Chase is a nice conference hotel.Good facilities etc BUT try booking a room at the weekend when they cater for families having a night or two away when they do not have conferences going on and although they make a point of saying they have superb leisure facilities ie pool etc Children are not allowed to use them. They dont tell you that until you have arrived. appalling!!!

Do not use this establishment
