... kindly let us use their washing machine so we had clothes to wear the next day! Their house was set in a beautiful English country garden they had developed form a paddock over the last 30 years. Mike and I slept down stairs and the 3 children were in beds up stairs with a sloped roof and skylight. There were photos of their travels all over the walls and they were keen for us to help them plan their trip to NZ.

... uni guys again as well as see some new places - after all I'd been home for over 4 weeks by this point!! Ironically the weather in England at 5 in the morning was much warmer (about 9˚C) than it was in France for the whole day (about 5˚C).

... we stopped for dinner. French Onion Soup for me and a cheese platter for Terry. And still he wanted to walk. So we walked the length of the Champs Élysées to the Arc de Triumph. Finally he decided time to walk home. We probably walked about 12km that day and he is still recovering! After a few wrong turns, we finally made it back to our hotel for the night. ... we started. We are tied up in a small offshoot with some barges. Including one thats used as a night club. rae is planning to take a look later. I think i will pass. i havnt seen much of Valenciennes. Just sorted out vhf channels and stopping places (unsuccesfully. ) Rae is doing her bit for a more pleasant atmosphere on the boat.
