... made it seem an even more desolate spot.


We went for a walk down through the small town and looked at the lock on the industrial canal.
Marcoing had been held by the Germans for most of WW1 and been smashed to pieces in the tank battle for Cambrai. There are 2 British military cemeteries nearby.

... our tour, we booked a tour starting in London today to the World War 1 Battlefields, we opted to meet the tour in Lille, France at the hotel the tour was starting from. We were dropped at the Gare du Nord by the tour bus, we had a bit of trouble being understood when it was time to buy our tickets ( I wished I payed more attention in French lessons) but we got here, our travelling companions will arrive at 8pm all ready for our first day of touring tomorrow. ...

... we stopped for dinner. French Onion Soup for me and a cheese platter for Terry. And still he wanted to walk. So we walked the length of the Champs Élysées to the Arc de Triumph. ... we started. We are tied up in a small offshoot with some barges. Including one thats used as a night club. rae is planning to take a look later. I think i will pass. i havnt seen much of Valenciennes. Just sorted out vhf channels and stopping places (unsuccesfully. ) Rae is doing her bit for a more pleasant atmosphere on the boat.
