Week 2 in Dijon

... the New Zealand girls was in France teaching English.
After the hospice we had forgotten where we had left the car and so we had to ask someone where the arc de triumph was and it turns out they were Australian!!! So then she explained the directions to me in English and told me that she was in France teaching English as an language teacher's assistant. She was from Sydeny and before we left said that it was good to hear the accent ...

School's in session (again)

... very different to Kingsway. It is a few huge buildings that are about 3 or 4 stories high each. There are 3 sections of the school that have like a courtyard in the middle and the lare building going around the outside, forming a rectangle. It is very difficult to explain but i have attached a couple of pictures. The classrooms are smaller than at my school but there is like a million of them.
When Marie introduced me to her ...

First two days in France

... doesn't lock the toilet door, how was i suppose to know? So i went back to my seat and hid under my blanket and pretended i was sleeping ^_^
After arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport, Danielle and Susan left with some other nacel students to their train terminal. I went with 6 others not long after and we caught the train from where we arrived to a different terminal. This train was only very small because it only travels within the airport and there are only a ...

We're in Burgundy drinking Pinot Noir...

... is that everything closes for lunch from 12 to 2. They are serious on their lunchtime here, and when its raining and there's not much sightseeing to do in the small towns, well, lets just say we were lucky to have enough wine to get us through it. We also tried a proper french dinner in the town of Beaune, a 4 course meal for 12 Euros. Caity got Rabbit and Tom got Veal, or so we thought. We still aren't sure ...

A weekend in wine country

... to Beaune we had a 3 hour car ride ahead of us. I tried to stay awake and look over some school notes but that was doing more harm than good as did my magazine so I ended up falling asleep. I woke up with around 30 minutes until our destination, at least thats what the GPS told us. We were on the highway so the parts of the 'countryside' that I saw seemed pretty bleak and boring, just like driving the Florida turnpike in some areas.

We reached our destination ...

Dijon is not playing fair

... number of 'across the streets'. She should have said to the left and down the street.
Again the next morning I did the same thing, but now line 7 wasnt working so I couldnt get back to the centre so I was going to go down the street and catch line 15 but there was a whole heap of construction work which meant that stop wasn't in service. So I gave up on the buses and used each stop's very dodgy bus route maps to find my way, whereupon I finally arrived at the tourist office.

Update from P and D

... so we rode in. Pastis and a (small) glass of rose for 2.20eu. Bit of a difference to Troyes where we were charged 8.10eu for a beer and a cold cafe au lait.
The site is fre but requires tokens for electricity (3eu for 1 hour) and water (3eu for 100 litres). This is pricey by French standards (the usual charge for 100ltrs of water - where not free - being no more than 1eu) but not too bad for such an attractive site.
One novelty spotted - a large BMW ...

A Hospice and Burgundian Vinyards

... The Hotel Dieu had two wards, one for the poor with small beds made for two, and the other for the rich with larger beds and "skylights" in the draperies so they could admire the ceiling art. The Pauper's Ward had a large chapel so patients could pray and prepare for death. The patients in the rich man's ward were more likely to survive and therefore had no chapel to repent. Both ward were served by an ...

All the way to Burgundy

... easy enough to get this right on the motorways, ********* junctions of smaller roads! But the mistake lasted only a few seconds and the surprised French driver who alerted us to the mistake was really nice about it, slowing down gently as I eased (well, lurched) to the right side of the road, and not even offering a corrective beep - very polite indeed in the circumstances.

The last stretch of our day's journey ...

Dijon and the Grapes Harvest Labour (Beaujolais)

... t too motivated about travelling themself though... hop sleeppppppppppp --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- ---------- September 15 Tough waking up, I didnt sleep well at all. At least I managed to work well but the 2 girls are already having enough. So far its pretty ****, everybody is dead like hell, so there isn't any party atmosphere at all nor talk nor energy to do whatever. People just want to lie down. Another ...
