Really beautiful train ride along the coast (which in a way it is a shame that the railway is right on the beach) Marseille is a bigger city and not so quaint but the port area is nice. Flew out of Marseille to Lisbon. I know not quite geographically logicall
Marseille, Provence, France pathenger... ride the train from Limoux to Marseille, which involves a couple transfers, then from Marseille there is an overnight bus that will take me right into Torino, where I'll meet my friend Carlo, and spend a couple days.
My simple train ride into Marseille turns into a series of missed connections and mis-communications. It somehow ends up taking five hours longer than I expected, and for the last stretch I just got on a train that I hadn't paid a ticket for. Note to ...
... easy to sort out. Sending Sarko my love!
And so now the run-up til Christmas begins! Some of the lights are on and there’s a Christmas market along the Cours Mirabeau that we had a quick look at yesterday, and they’re selling roast chestnuts in the street, so starting to get excited about coming home, but at the same time no wanting to wish my time away here. Town is definitely getting busier on the Saturdays, which makes Aix really feel like a ghost ...
Plan was to stay in Avignon but when we arrived we decided it was too big for us and after driving around the outide of the ramparts of the old city walls - very cool and the main thing we wanted to see - we made our way onwards to Fontaine de Vaucluse which is 20kms past Avignon. We arrived just before dark and found an Aire de Service at the edge of town where settled in for 2 days. The town ...
Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France darrenhough74We have at long last arrived in France! We ended up scrapping the visit to Marseille, both since travellers we've met said its not worth the visit, and since we heard it's not really the place to be wandering around the streets at 10 at night looking for a place to stay. So instead we caught the bus up to Aix-en-Provence, which is pretty much the cutest town on the entire planet. We're pretty sure we were the only people ...
Aix-en-Provence, Provence, France tommcatt... The woman talked about the large mountains we would encounter and how the weather was supposed to be bad for the next week.
When discussing our trip, she said it was ‘beau’. Asked if we had a map - no, transaltion book - no, telephone - no. I said ‘je suis fou?’. But she confirmed, no ‘beau’, but offered us a place to stay at their home. As she started ...

Pour conclure, as I feel that this 'essay' will do for now, I've really noticed the French love for dogs...there are more fat dogs here than there are fat people, and they take them everywhere, even into shops and supermarkets. Hygenic?
So, all in all, the first 6 weeks have been awesome. This week I got a pretty bad case of the homesickness and generally feeling a bit low, I forget that for the first time in my life I'm actually living on my own ...
... and grumpy by the time we finally reached the turnoff for our gorgeous Provencal farmhouse, and all got out of the car with a sigh of relief. We were greeted by the most beautiful outdoor dining courtyard and our friendly host Bernard just at the stage of bringing home-made pizzas out of the brick wood-fired oven. The sun set over the hills, we sat down on the chairs and chatted to the other guests (a couple from Austria on their motor bike) and assorted ...
Simiane la Rotonde, France chalmersfamily... his academic work, he encouraged her to live her own life, even if doing so would keep them apart for months at a time. The marriage ended when she fell in love with Dillwyn Parrish, whom she called Timmy. They were married and returned to the United States in 1940, purchasing ninety acres near the town of Hemet, where she would write and he would paint. Parrish was a victim of a circulatory disease that caused him to lose a leg to amputation and left him in constant pain ...
