Day1 Well it's sad but I am going to start the tour of Paris off by summary up our bus trip and arrival to the hotel. It seems that it is where most of our stories come from, but here it goes. We first had to catch the train from Brugge to Brussels, which is where the bus station was located for us to catch our bus to Paris. We made it to Brussels …
... and baguettes are so yummy over here. I'm really going to miss them when we go home! It started pouring with rain once we were in the cafe. It didn't really let up much either. We had to make a dash through the rain to the Pantheon which was only about 5 minutes away so we didn't get too drenched.
The Pantheon was built by Louis XV to replace the ruined church of the abbey of St Genevieve. It now functions as a mausoleum containing the remains of ...
... I was in shock when we saw some army guys walking around patrolling holding machine guns! We also stopped at the padlock bridge which was opposite the louvre and we put our own padlock on the bridge and threw the key into the water to symbolise our love. For those of you not in the know, Colette was a French author (among other things) and she wrote the short story "Gigi" which was turned into the film (which features Maurice Chevalier). Parts of the movie were actually filmed in Maxim's. I knew that Mum would kill me if I missed this opportunity, so in I went. TravelPod Member ReviewsEtap Hotel Paris Porte de Bercy
2 nights stay..
it was a basic room...
a bed, an attached bathroom ...
a pre-booked & paid breakfast.
the room was ok ... our experience with the many other hotels being much nicer could have been the reason for the dissatisfaction.
the biggest plus was the access to public transport... just bang out of the hotel is the Parc De Bercy bus stop.
