... animal swam past. Its body was about 40 cm long with a long tail. At first I thought otter but then I thought rat. It turns out to be a ragondin. It is a large semi aquatic rodent or beaver rat. The next day we saw a few of them and one was very large indeed. Apparently the can get up to 60cm in body length and over 40cm long tail. Needless to say we did not go down to the river and made sure Frankie's door was shut tight.

We've sampled the beer ( and pastries ) at every overnight stop, and found it to be very ...

We didn't have a great start again, as we rode for about 15 mins through the city and ended up back where we started. Take 2, then there were roadworks and our path was barricaded off, so we had to do a detour up around the industrial section of town. We thought we had a relatively easy day of 64 kms, but two more detours later, and by the time we reached Mulhouse we were over 70 kms. Seven extra kms doesn't sound much, but to ...

... the area each little hamlet has built an Aire and provides services for us to use, desperately trying to encourage us to stay a while. We are going to, it's lovely. Clive's pinged the only thing that appears to be open each afternoon. A bar selling German beer! The other shops appear to have just been abandoned. One still has old dusty books on its shelves, another has an old typewriter on the back table and an old Supermarket type grocers still has packet foods in its ...
