... years ago, a man (or was it a fifty year old man?) decided to help the church and replastered the walls, smothering the ancient decorations. Careful investigation has revealed a little of the art of red and yellow ochre with some blue and black too. But they couldn't or can't tell him off because it was fifty years ago or he is fifty or maybe both.

Later in the week, we caught the eye of an old local man, dressed in the rural uniform of shirt and baggy trousers ...

... the Dordogne Valley, there is over 6 kilometres of paths, gazebos, massive areas of topiary, herb gardens and hedges. Parts of the chateau were open and furnished. Peacocks roamed free, the restaurant had a view of the valley.

Limoges to Paris

... Austerlitz in the early evening. I gather my luggage, surprised to find myself back in Paris so soon. Time has flown by in the Dordogne. I am booked into Hotel Aviatic near the Montparnass Tower south of the Seine and pretty far from the center of Paris. It was really the only thing available at the time I booked, and then only for two nights.

Later I find out why Paris hotels are full. It's Fashion Week and the city is swarming with a mix ...

Dat over die bewondering komt zo meteen.
Donderdag zijn wij uit Chatre vertrokken richting zuid. Er is eindelijk zon en geen wind. De heuvels laten zich vandaag gelden. Als we na bijna elf uur ons einddoel hebben bereikt zijn we 80km opgeschoten en hebben we 1093 hoogtemeters verslonden. We zijn dan in la Souterainne.De vrijdag brengt ons 65 km verder en moeten we 1110 hoogtemeters overwinnen. 's Morgens is het koud en bewolkt. Als we 's middag op ...

First night in France

... very disappointing. Sitting in a sunny courtyard at the B&B waiting for our dinner. Relaxed at last! They have a very lovely dog here too – looks like an oversized Alsatian and goes by the name of Indie.

Lovely dinner tonight, most of it made from their garden produce and eggs from their chickens. Rolled into bed and asleep before my head touched the pillow.
