Hyeres

E prea geru deja. E decent, nimic extraordinar, d...

quick visit

Just paid a fleeting visit to St Tropez on the way to Avignon (so we thought)... had to be done really.. a quick wander around and a very quick coffee. It was much smaller than I thought. Lots of nice boats but loads of tourists too.... that was about it!<br>

What a nice surprise

... believe our luck. It was so nice. Still, warm and crystal clear water on sandy beaches. We had a quick swim but knew we had to leave to get to Avignon on time. We then decided that if we found a campsite that was open we would stay. The first 2 we came to were closed and we were sad...but around at st clair beach one was open! Woo hoo!!!! 2 very happy girls. That night we played in the sand like kids ...

A quick visit to Port Grimaud.

We also took the short drive to Port Grimaud, to visit this small but new harbour town built in what was once marshland, but is now row after row of condos and homes built in a web of jetties to allow the homes to anchor their boats at their doorsteps. Of course, we would have rather spend our time on the beach, but with bad weather, Grimaud was a nice alternative.

Cloudy and Windy St. Tropez

... were all off to explore this beautiful and famous town. Unfortunately, it was still overcast and although it wasn't as windy as Marseille, it was still windy, so there wasn&#8217;t a lot happening on St. Tropez famous beaches. The waterfront has a lot of little shops and cafes along it and further in town there are a lot more high-end boutiques. We ...

Off too Hyeres

... or AC or something but for the price you can hardly complain. Hyeres is a pretty old city. It was originally founded by the Phoenicians and was later used by both the Greeks (who called it Olbia) and Romans (who called it Eyras). Since the 1600's it has been a resort town. During World War II a team of US/Canadian special forces landed in Hyeres and from there took a series of local islands. Sophie and I left early on the 10th. We got there around noon and, after getting lost ...

LE MISTRAL!

... purchases had included some of those fairly new giganto sunglasses which protected my eyes like two transparent dinner plates. I was fairly sure that by the time he returned I would be buried to the shoulders in sand but, as it turned it, it only filled every orifice of my body so that was much better. Poor little Marcel tried again and again to get past the shorebreaks but never succeeded. Kite surfing is difficult in that kind of wind and at only 60 kilos (so ...
