We woke at 6:30 to blue skies and sunshine, had breakfast and loaded the bikes with everything (everything comes off when we stay at a hotel) and were on the road just after 8am - no gnome hats, only nicks, shirts and wind jackets! Quite a boring day for cycling, the only things of note were a windmill and a historic ferry stranded in the middle of nowhere. Quite a lot of ...

... Naundorf -we were quite surprised arriving here as we shouldn't have been anywhere near a village and certainly not sharing the next 5km of road (no cycle path here) with fast cars and large trucks. We walked the section which actually went over the main Leipzig to Berlin autobahn (A9) trying to avoid the vehicles coming on and off the autobahn - quite an unnerving experience. We rode the last 1.5km into Vockerode expecting to join ...

Today was planned as a short day as we wanted time to visit the Bauhaus. Getting up and packing was again cold and windy. Val was really fed-up with being cold so much this trip, given that it was almost june. The sun came out and stayed out as we set off. The path was straightforward beside the Aken to Dessau road for quite a way. However at the point that we were supposed to turn off through the forest to Grosskaunau there was a diversion sign (Umleitung) ...

... through the forest and we came to a very impressive gateway to a, now vanished palace at Friederikenberg. It was interesting that just as went through Steckby just after 10am near the end of our days ride, a group of four females were leaving their pension to start theirs. Suddenly the breeze stopped and the sun came out and we had a lovely ride down to the ferry for Aken.

Syd found our campsite and we waited in the sunshine ...

... left. Gradually people left the site, we made and ate dinner and went to the loo. At 15mins past 8pm everyone had left leaving us totally alone at the campsite, except for another touring cyclist who had arrived at about 6pm. On checking the facilities hsd indeed been locked up so other "nature breaks" would have to be au naturelle. The night was very quiet and dark, with only a small light at the entrance to the site, but it was quite cold.
