    ... first storm was quite brief but the one that followed had us put our rain jackets on for 40 minutes or so....... but this was only the second time of using them since Rome!
    The wind was a bit pesky for most of the day though, making us work harder and knocking back our cruising speed. We passed through an area where there were lots of old spoil heaps and a village called Marles les Mines soon followed. We stopped for coffee ...

    headed straight for the beach. The beach lies at the bottom of tall chalk
    cliffs that lead down onto a pebble beach. The tide was out and the open sand
    between the pebbles and the sea was at least 300 meters wide. The tidal flow in
    the area is quite large with a spring tide difference of more than 9 meters
    between high and low tides.

    ... day trips as a child but had never clocked just how beautiful the old town is. We walked along the ramparts and soaked up the heat. We were pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive everything was e.g. a 3 course meal for 8 euros. Bill got to go up the Belfry for free. Isaac and I waved from below.

    ... you'd get in a caravan! Like my mum and dad's in England just 1/3 the size. It has to be said though... The room did look a bit like a prison cell but seeing some prison cells it was a little worse! Unfortunately the TV didn't work either. For 29 euros for the night I suppose we shouldn't complain!
