... at the side of the cathedral, from which you could see the town below and indeed the whole countryside. Even the nuclear power plant in the distance. France gets 80% of its power from nuclear energy.

We then walked back down through the beautiful medieval town to the river. At the end of our walk we were invited to play petanque (pe Tan) which is bocci ball to us. They also served pastis and sausages. It was a fun afternoon.

... The chateau has an indoor heated pool and an outside pool that is also heated. Being red-blooded Aussies we had to throw the togs on and go for a dip. It was beautiful and as no-one knows us we didn't mind flashing our ample whale like white bodies! Obviously our natural charm was on display because an Irish colleen picked us as Aussies. After our 11am checkout we headed north north east, back past Nimes and eventually to Pont Saint Esprit. We have a total of about two and a half hours driving from go to whoa, so our plan was to stop for lunch in Nimes and check out the "Square House" that ...

A cruising day and visit to Viviers

A travel blog entry by sueslater

The boat left Avignon in the early hours of the morning. Went through a number of locks today, one early in the morning around 5am, Avignon, built in 1973. The second lock, Caderousse, around breakfast time. The third lock, the tallest so far at 23m, built in 1952, Bollene, we came out of around 11am. We continued cruising along the Rhone, now in the Ardeche region. After lunch we arrived in Viviers, a medieval township virtually unchanged ...
