Ella to mcDonalds for Lunch and a Play...and of course free internet!
We were hoping to find a campsite tonight (as I smell) and found one
called 'Camping Ch-ti'mi'... And I think it was a joke as it was
really 'Camping ******** me' as we could not find it ANYWHERE! So the
Aires again it was!
up frosty and cold (trying to scrimp on what gas we have left!) we
got on the road to the biggest and best chateau of the Loire Valley:
Chambord! The pics say it for themselves really, but it was quite
amazing although very cold inside! They were not so clever as the
bigger the rooms/higher the roofs, the harder to heat! Was built in
the 15th ...
... his works/inventions etc. VERY cool and definitely a big plus in low season as it was very quiet. Some really awesome inventions, so ahead of his time, but some really gruesome military inventions too!! Spent a night at a winery after purchasing a few of their bottles...of ...
... had over 3 glasses...and that's before 11am! He took us through the incredible caves where barrels are left in a perfect temp to age. Really fantastic as it was a Chateau and all the stone was quarried from those caves, leaving tunnels and smaller homes, still had all the alcoves for pigeons to use as messengers. We got to our campsite nice and early to chill...this moving about can be hard ...
... From hearing about how it was lived in for just short periods of time you get a sense that it certainly does not have a lived-in feel. It is very much a showpiece. There was also an AV presentation room where the history and story of Chambord was told. This was very well designed as there was a large screen with the story in French and then around the room were smaller displays in a range of languages.
