It was a museum day today......the Galleria Degli Uffizi, the Galleria dell' Academia and the Gallileo Museum.

The Italians really know how to preserve their history in museums ...however they don't like you taking photos. It felt unnatural to see all the beautiful paintings, tapestries and statues and not be able to take photos. Saw the …

The sun gods smiled down on us today and we had a glorious 24C today for our walking tour of Rome. Late start of 9:45 am meant a chance to catch up on some reading.

Only four were up for the walk and we hit the Metro for our first stop which was the Church of Trinita Dei Monti at the top of the Spanish Steps. Great views over Rome. Next …

Got to Florence from Venice and checked in to the Ester Hotel. We are getting a train out to Pisa to see the tower. The hotel we stayed at was literally 1 minute walk from the main train station in Florence and very close to all the sights. We had a great view from our second floor apartment.

Florence: Birthplace of Michelangelo

Half forced, half coaxed into reading Irving Stone's "The Agony and the Ecstasy", I hesitantly picked up the 758 page book and started reading about the troubled life of Michelangelo, one of history's greatest artists/architects/sculptors/etc. Little did I know how much this book would shed so much light on so many places we visited in Italy and …

Rome was conquered and now it was time to head to Florence via Pisa. Ah the Leaning Tower of Pisa, another contrast with India is that you go to this town or city to see an amazing piece of architecture but that's all there is, like Agra and the Taj Mahal. So there isn't any point in hanging around for more than a couple of hours.

Aware that two dorm beds often cost more than a private hotel room, Lyndi and I walked just left of the train station upon arrival in Florence and found Hotel Ester to be exactly what we were looking for. Taking up the second floor (or the "2th" Floor as they say...) it had a mini refrigerator, comfortable bed and even a little patio - plus a computer right in the room with free internet! All for 40 Euro! Highly recommended.
