Aware that two dorm beds often cost more than a private hotel room, Lyndi and I walked just left of the train station upon arrival in Florence and found Hotel Ester to be exactly what we were looking for. Taking up the second floor (or the "2th" Floor as they say...) it had a mini refrigerator, comfortable bed and even a little patio - plus a computer right in the room with free internet! All for 40 Euro! Highly recommended.

It was a museum day today......the Galleria Degli Uffizi, the Galleria dell' Academia and the Gallileo Museum.

The Italians really know how to preserve their history in museums ...however they don't like you taking photos. It felt unnatural to see all the beautiful paintings, tapestries and statues and not be able to take photos. Saw the …

Only four were up for the walk and we hit the Metro for our first stop which was the Church of Trinita Dei Monti at the top of the Spanish Steps. Great views over Rome. Next …

    Florence - Friday 18/06/10
We woke up early today, and after breakfast went on a proper tour of Florence with an Italian guide. He took us past much of where we went the previous night, but gave us some great history about the city and the culture. Most of which i cannot remember, but it was very interesting!
The tour ended at a leatherwork shop, as Florence is very famous for it's leather goods, they were the first to create the florentine box ...
