saludos,

Geert

Atlantic ocean, whales and flamingos!

... coffee. After lunch I have my first Alfajore. One thing Ive noticed in Argentina is their LOVE for dulce de leche which is basically caramel sauce. The Alfajore is two cookies with dulce de leche in the middle. You can get it many ways, with chocolate around the cookie or white chocolate. Very yummy. We had a alfajore party on the beach.

Next day I went for a long run on the beach (working off the ...

Puerto Madryn

Arrived in Puerto Madryn and decided to have a look around the city along the waterfront. There is a big jetty about 200mts long you can walk down. Went down there and whales are 100mts off shore. So awesome to see them so close and seen about 4 just in a little bay.

Organised that night with some people from the hostel to rent a car for the next day to go to Peninsula Valdes where there is a lot of wildlife. Found some more people after we got the car ...

Chillin out with our penguin friends........

... pretty uneventful bus journey we arrived in the brand spanking new bus terminal in Bahia Blanca at around 6.30am (ouch again). For it being a brand spanking new bus terminal though it was a tad short on facilities - full of nice bright polished spaces but no place to store your bags, no ATM, barely any seats to speak of..... Anyway, we didn´t have much cash and with no ATM in the building we couldn´t even afford breakfast in the cafe, never mind purchase our bus ...

Penguins, Sealions and dusty roads

... Valdes. We saw penguins, sealions and bit fat elephant seals. It was a bit of a drive though and the guide kept spitting all over poor Keith with through her teeth everytime she spoke and had a breath I can only describe as blue cheese. The beach was nice but windy and we both got a bit roasted. That night we had a nice time chatting with an Argentinian guy in very broken Spanish but it was good craic, next stop is El Calafate for some glacier action!

Penguins and Puerto Madryn

... Valdés are famous for the right whales that come very close to shore, and are apparently so noisy that their calls will wake you up in the night. However, by the time we arrived they were long gone, and another type of whale was being watched. In mid-summer, orcas come to feed on the seal colonies on the peninsula, and when the tide is right they'll even chase the seals onto shore, coming almost out of the water. We didn't see any of this drama ...

Punta Tombo Penquin Rookery

... out, found food, swam back to shore, walked to their nests, and fed the youngsters. They estimate that there are 1.5 million penguins there, but we didn't see nearly that number, but for as far as you can see there were little dots of white on the barren slopes of the shore. If we would have had more than 90 minutes there, we could have seen more. But to some people, you see one penguin in a tuxedo ...

Sea Lions, Cormorants, and Sheep

As the sun was rising we were headed in to Puerto Madryn. I was having my breakfast outside on the aft deck and watched the sun come up out of the water. We spent the day in Puerto Madryn, Argentina. The four of us went on a tour to see a beach populated with sea lions. There were a bunch there and quite a few cormorants were on the side of the cliff along the beach.

From there we went to an estancia or ...
