After my days pottering about Buenois Aires and Salta it was a change to have a few restful days in the El Bordo de las Lanzas, further North in the Andeian foothills: (http://www.innsofargentina.com/hotels/ Salta/Estancia-El-Bor do-de-las-Lanzas/ The owner, Augustine, collects me from Salta and after a winding dusty ride along mountain roads and through small villages, we turn into a long driveway that takes us to the property. The building presents a pure Spanish colonial style, mainly buil...
Salta, Argentina iplodWe didn’t do our research very well, and decided to take a 9 hour overnight bus from Uyuni to the Argentinean border. This turned out to be a mistake, and the most uncomfortable bus trip of our travels so far! Klaus had the foresight to bring a sleeping bag for the journey but unfortunately we were quite under prepared! The bus was slow (although this was to be expected travelling in the night on unpaved roads) - but it was also ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina katandsuren... a mountain to the first of 4 zip wires across the canyon. Lee had made the mistake of telling Frank (our instructor) that he was petrified of heights so got picked on a little bit but was really glad that he plucked up the courage to do it - he now believes that he has conquered his fear of heights! The first zip wire was 190 meters high and 600 meters long which was a little scary, however we both loved it and were ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina celeea...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina dragoscurelea... the Pucara and then make my way straight to Bolivia. As soon as I left the bus stand, I was greeted by a German Sheperd who would be my guide through town. As though I was his master, my companion followed me around absoluely everywhere. If I got too far away from him or in another room in the Pucara, he would run frantically until he found me again. He responded to my commands. It was awesome. The Pucara was incredibly beautiful with ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina chiapoe... the Salta cemetery (not sure why exactly...), in between asking me about myself. Yeah, it was boring. I arrived in Salta to rain and cold, and despite only being a 10 minute walk, i decided the effort involved in finding my raincoat in the bottom of my pack was far too great and instead decided to taxi it. And it was in this very Saltan taxi that i was to have my first conversation pùrely in Spanish (no spanglish, no english). Well in truth it ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina becstar26... children. Found by an American expedition in 1999 were the perfectly preserved bodies of two 7-year olds and one 15-year old girl. Due to the cold, the lack of oxygen and the dryness of the air, these bodies came out of their shrine hole with skin, teeth, hair, eyes and clothes, looking for the most part as if they may wake up at any point. Housed in the museum, they show one of the children at any one time, and I had the pleasure of looking at the ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina razandrich... altitude caught up with Keith and his face became laminated and at midnight I was carrying him home to his disgrace! I had a fantastic time though and took pride in waking him at 9 the next morning to come to the museum with me! We met Abby and Jo at the Plaza and went to see the mummy they had found high in the Andes plains in northern argentina. It was one of the most ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina becca.doherty... for some time now so I'll have to check that out next time I'm out and about. !!

My hostel has been D E A D which has been good and bad, as usual. The good bit is that I've recovered from the debauchery with Susan and Dave in Mendoza....I've finished a few books in a few days and have caught up with sleep.

The bad bit is that it's been a tad boring. I've decided to move on mañana to see what that brings.
