... the right direction (which we still managed to screw up). As we crossed the bridge to the Port Chateaus it started pouring rain (Thank you Chris for making me bring my coat) and we were soaked by the time we got there. Thankfully we have both become pretty immune to the rain.
The first Chateau we visited was Sandeman. They are a very old Chateau and are famous for their trademark character “The Don” who appears on all their bottles and ...
... been around for more than a thousand years or so. It's a very peaceful place, and for the most part this rubs off on it's inhabitants. Many days I enjoyed a walk by the river purely to sup on the calm. It was a nice change of pace from Madrid.
The first full day I was there of course I went around to taste some Port from every place that would give me some. It's an interesting drink, and much like wine in the sense that good Port is good, and bad Port is ...

Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal cariverga... are. The distilleries were surprisingly accessible, with all of them offering tours of the caves and tastings, for a fee of course. We were only able to visit a couple (Porto seems to close for 2 hours during lunch) before catching our evening flight out, but we are glad to have tried some new and very interesting kinds of port. Thank you Portugal, we will be back to see more.
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal tommcatt... city. Narrow streets tumbling down to the river with washing hanging from the windows. Lots of bridges, trams and traffic. One side of the river was the centre for the production of port. We went to one of them and sampled some of the product.
We stayed about 100 meters from the sea. Miles and miles and miles of golden sand and boardwalks. We did a lot of walking and a lot of cycling. Beautiful weather. We then moved onto Aveiro further down the coast.
... the better part of an hour looking for any restaurant that was opened. Our meals were : a tuna salad (a can of tuna, unrippened tomatoes and lettuce) and pork (a peice of pork, rice and french fries.) Long story short we were more then enthusiastic to get on the road in the morning to leave Porto behind
For example, the one(and I mean only one) laundromat in Porto was closed on a wednesday afternoon....how annoying is it to walk across town with a backpack to find something is closed at that time. Grrrr, another day of smelly socks and dirty underwear. After my expedition to the laundromat, I met up with Ryan and Racheal and we walked around the town of Porto. The town is built on the side of hill and there are narrow ...
Oporto, Portugal ericrg... veal drowned in olive oil with potatoes thrown in as life rafts! Once again Tonya sought out the highest point in the city. Thankfully this was the Santa Justa Elevator and didn´t involve climbing hundreds of steps. However we got our cardio workout climbing up to the Castelo de Sao Jorge. From here we could see what looked like the Golden Gate Bridge and a statue of Christ the Redeemer just like the one in Rio. This combined with the trams ...
