What? Thursday already??

... into this dessert a few minutes ago.

With all this talk of food and pastries, you'd think we'd both be busting our britches but truth be known -- my jeans are fitting a bit looser and we both feel justified with the tremendous amount of distance and strenuous walking we have been doing -- up and down steep streets while gripping the cobblestone surfaces.

We haven't yet made our plans for tomorrow. The Fado Museum ...

After all these years of being so close. . .

... they were less overpowering, simpler. Any extra detail they had tended to be in a design in the paint, not extra plaster on the walls. In addition, there weren't any wide, straight, tree-lined avenues, except for those that were pedestrian only, that are often found in capital cities. Instead the streets were generally narrower, again, less showy. Speaking of pedestrian areas, the area our hostel was in was pretty much all pedestrian ...

The rocky cliffs and sheltered beaches of Cascais

... us ashore. The Bosun came along to helm and care for the tender. This little village has a protected harbor and is full of small fishing and sail boats. There are a few small beaches in the village, but the rest of the coast is just rocky cliffs. Between the cliffs and the harbor jetty, there is a very small inlet with a small lighthouse on the point and a beautiful villa, I believe the Santa Marta. Behind a small stone bridge that crosses the inlet is the Palace of ...

Pleasure

... be there working again, so I had to start working on completely different forms than I was previously working on and that seemed to go over well with myself. The trouble with this kind of travel is that I have never seen any of these places before, so I feel compelled to cram in every single item in the book I can possibly fit in. Relaxation is not an option. I cut myself some slack at night and don't force myself to go out, but daytime is chock full of tourist ...

Second weekend in Lisbon...

... we all sat down i the restaurant... i was disappointed, it wasn´t cheap and no one seemed particularly impressed with the food, plus my migraine started to kick in again and the nausea returned, so i felt great at my gran´s bday lunch in which she barely spoke a word to me! Finally i was given some hardcore drug for migraines that took a while to kick in and then i felt kind of drowsy all evening, whilst chatting to the early hours ...

Lissabon a place to be

Dus ...

A good fishing story... :D

... it's such a classic that you already know what's going on.... On the way to the north of Portugal we stopped at Obidos which was a stunning medieval village that was largely intact with most of the walls surrounding the city and a lot of the houses still in good order or had been renovated with people still living in them. Very quaint gardens and lemon trees. Nazare ...

Sintra and Cascais

... it was again a large difference in temperature. We had only traveled about 1 1/2 hours. It was back to being 25.C in the day and the night time was cooler, but still comfortable enough to walk with just a light jacket. It was a nice town, some cobbled streets gave it a charming feel, yet it had some modern shopping and restaurants. There is a walkway along the ocean that goes all the way from Cascais to the next town of Estoril. It's about 1 to 1 1/2 hours walk ...

... shots. One morning they woke me excitedly and I was greeted by a sea that reflected like a mirrored surface stretching to infinity. Photos I took directly into the ocean were indistinguishable from the sky it was reflecting; only the slight starring of the sun gave anything away. Later the same day we were entertained by several pods of whales that surrounded us as far as we could see. Mostly they blew streams of water 20-30 feet into the air but occasionally they would breach the ...

Hello from Lisboa!

... I can cool off because it´s realllly hot here. Sush and Gaye have moved on to Sintra today but I might catch up with them in Madrid in a week or so. Well I´m off in search of a legendary pastry now that Joanna (a Portuguese friend of Sush and Gaye´s) told me about. I have quite a few photos taken now, I just need to get them put on to a CD and I will post them online for you, so check back in a few days! Reece.
