The entire city of Billings seems to be surrounded by these huge buttes that rise up out of the valley like some sort of medieval battlements. Really wonderful to see.



To bed soon, and then off tomorrow to the Little Bighorn Battlefield, Devil's Tower, and Rapid City.

... the spot where someone has died on the hwy. There must have been about 25 spots that were marked. Most had 3 or 4 crosses meaning multiple deaths. It was one of the saddest roads I have travelled. We ended up in Billings Montana which is about 230 km from where we started this morning. We registered 560 km today. ... Women, children and older men accompanied the warriors to this encampment). The battle was explained to us in detail and everyone knows the outcome. It was the greatest victory the Indians ever had over the US.

One interesting fact is that 268 US soldiers died but no one knows how many Indians. The women of each tribe visited the battlefield the next day and retrieved their dead so that they could bury ...
