... at 7:00pm and tried to check into this grand hostel that is a well designed castle with a medieval theme located on Ponta Negra Beach on the outskirts of the city. Full of people. I tried to get them to allow us to sleep on a mattress in the dungeon on the floor but they wouldn´t be in it. We trekked from hotel to poussada (small hotel) to apartment, to albergue (hostel) for three hours, no joy. Everything was packed out for the weekend. Rich Brazilians ...

... proven much better....After looking at the other two guides that are dedicated to Brazil, it wins on detail but loses bigtime on accommodation and eating options as its target audience are the rich kids. They all have their priorities all mixed up. For example, both Toeprints and Enough Guide suggested that the reader should stay in Ponta Negra while in Natal but none of them gave directions how to get there. ... at nearly double the price. All for sake of convenience. The streets were packed until about 2 am when everyone either headed home with their catch for teh evening or headed up to the disco up the road to party until dawn. I managed to make it up all night once or twice. It was always definitely a party worth checking out, at least for a little bit. Beware of the men, always.

... so I headed back to Ponta Negra in Natal on my own for a few nights. My Portuguese being put to the full test, I managed to find the beach and a hotel after only an hour or two of aimless wandering.... Very touristy, lots of gringo´s, great all you can eat shrimp restaurants & great Buggy Tour - thank you Marco!
