... really rough and bumpy country side to the Mayan ruins at xcambo. I think they were fake. Then we drove to the beach and got out for a few minutes so we could look at sea shells. We made our way back to the hacienda restaurant for complimentary dos equis and authentic Mexican snacks. Back on the boat we lounged at the Serenity deck with a couple who were with us on our “mini heep” tour with. They were Mom and Dad’s age from the Woodlands. I can’t remember ...
Galveston, Texas, United States teambortzfield... up onto their 20 foot high balconies, sitting in deck chairs and sipping a cocktail. There is a lot of patriotism about and a strong belief in their country. The Americans do believe in the healing power of the Stars and Stripes. A lot of them flap quite raggedly attached to shattered wooden frames of what were once beautiful family homes.
Good luck and positive energy to all those that have to re-build their lives because of Hurricane Ike.
... and full of beaches!
Although we spent all day under an umbrella at the beach, we still managed to get a little burnt when playing in the sea! We both have pink knees (must have missed the sunblock there lol!)
We have also been dining in the all you can eat buffets for 2 days! Hope you cant tell!
Just a few snaps for you to check out -
Hope all is well at home!

Webster, Texas, United States marijka... wasn't washed away, it's full of debris impaled into it - timber, trees, branches, pallets, plywood, siding, styrofoam insulation, picnic tables, chairs, etc, etc. Several contractors are screening the sand, hauling away the garbage and putting the cleaned sand back on the beach. A lot of out-of-town workers have arrived (in trailers, campers, 5th wheels) to assist in the restoration process by renovating homes, demolishing others, rebuilding businesses and performing a monumental clean ...
Galveston, Texas, United States jimcabay... and showers are quite grungy. The campground facilities are probably the worse that I've seen in 5 months. After setting up I went for a drive through town. This place isn't that big so it didn't take long. The beach looks like it might be an awesome place when the sun is shining. It was cloudy and quite windy so it didn't look very inviting. There are numerous historical houses built on Broadway that might be interesting to tour. The historical downtown area is ...
Galveston, Texas, United States cobra1899Galveston is an island on the Gulf of Mexico, about an hour's drive south of Houston. The south end of the island is the beach side, although the beach is not very impressive. It is dirty and muddy in most places that I've seen. This is due to Galveston being downstream from the river mouth of the Mississipi which washes up its contents onto the Gulf coast of Eastern Texas. A number of built ...
Galveston, Texas, United States polakpete... After that we decided to head to the gulf and swim in the ocean for a while, which proved quite entertaining. We saw a dead jellyfish on shore, and got sufficient opportunity to poke it without fear of repricushions. Then as we swam out, we started to see jumping fish, more accureatly fish that can't swim properly BELOW the waves. So instead of swimming down when theres a wave, they go through it and end up airborne. This also proved to be a good time for me to hear ...
Freeport, Texas, United States digitaldoc... They are cruise experts and we had a pleasant drive to Galveston where we boarded our ship. I'm looking forward to seeing them and the other "Cruise Critics" at lunch tomorrow. After a bite to eat we went straight to bed. It was a glorious 2-hour nap. I'm sure many people think these cruise beds are uncomfortable but after sleeping on the floor for a week we found it the most opulent of luxuries. Our bags ...
Galveston, Texas, United States doodlebugs... pipes had to be seen to be leak proof so as not to get water in the oil. Then the tanks had to be steamed adding caustic soda to get really clear of residual oil and filth. Then when all that was done and the tanks were dried out we then had to get the tank lids fitted and pressure tested! Doing up each nut and bolt with a monkey wrench top and bottom because the 'firm' was to mean to provide proper fitting spanners or ...
