Mistletoe

Well we didn't really stay in Tours so I can’t say much about it. I don’t even really remember the campsite we stayed at! That’s why I should write these things right away!

The only thing I remember is the Mistletoe. I had been wondering what the big balls in all the trees were and while we were in Paris my uncle explained that they were mistletoe ...

The End of the Beginning

... that the property holds, but it's what gets put in that comes out. And I'm sure that if you know what to look for you can taste hints of that grace and character in the wine that is made there.

So it's with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to all my friends in France, however briefly we met. There's no way that the times that I've had wont shape the rest of my experiences in my travels, and for that I'm grateful.

Camping in the shadow of a Chateau

... Friday 30 Oct
Next morning was overcast and nippy which always means a slow start to the day. Went out for a 9km run through the village and I managed to sneak in some hills, much to Kim's dismay but she managed to run all the way. I had thought it was not that hilly until we drove the way we run the following day and Scoooy started to struggle! Caught the end of the local farmers markets and bought ...

A Walk with Kings and the End of the Vendange

... all but too rewarding to stand and watch the last of the pressed grapes being swept from the floor while listening to the last bits of the Opera "Madama Butterfly".

Although the harvest has come to a close, my time here in France, fortunately, has not. This means over the next week or two I'll be exploring full time. On Wednesday of this week I was able to go out to Chenonceau ...

An update from Le Meslerie

... I will have for many years to come. I have to say that having this experience at the beginning of this journey has been exactly what someone who is going into the great unknown would want.

During the last of my time here, we will obviously finish up pressing the rest of the grapes that we are able to get this season, but I'd also like to take as much time as I can to visit some of the historic ...

I am an art forger

... guys in the group remarked, "I can see why the king liked her." When Henri II died, his widow, Catherine de Medicis, turned up at Chenonceau and kicked Diane out. Catherine's sour-faced portrait now hangs in Diane's former bedroom.

There was a maze on the grounds of the chateau, so I walked through that. Disappointingly, it was too easy, and I was in and out in about two minutes. So I walked over to the vegetable garden (I know!) and wandered around there for a bit ...

Francois I was a show-off

... has been credited to da Vinci, but since he died the year that construction of Chambord began, he may not have been the man who designed it. You can walk up one of the staircases and not see anyone coming down the other staircase. It's pretty nifty, actually, but tiring to walk up because of the low risers.

On view were various rooms used by Francois and also the duke who thought he would be Louis XVIII. Francois's symbol, the salamander, is all ...

Day trip to Tours.

I took a day trip into Tours, which is the biggest city around here. It's a pretty amazing places, I still have a lot of exploring to do here yet, but I wanted to post some pictures of my first trip that I took into Tour alone.

Enjoy

Day 10 - No manly instincts

... No, failed again. Well, we did pick a good camping spot. Hang on a minute why does it sound like a shuttle is taking off. Oh yeh, we did not realise that we set up camp a few metres away from a train track! At least the trains will stop over night. No, they did not. Even when I was young I never mooned anyone. But this was an outrage. Needless to say me and Alex visually attacked the next passenger train.
