... but it saved time and money. Not that laundries are horribly expensive but it’s still 7€ saved. Plus it’s a 30 minute walk across town, not so bad during daylight but I’m nervous about doing that when the sun goes down. Even in a pretty little village like this.

... which was part of the old hospital so we decided to visit the. Well worth the visit as it showed how people were treated long ago. The apothecary itself had a lot of the original medicines used in the 17th century.

Returned to the same restaurant as we had used the night before as were so impressed and not disappointed either. Lovely place and very good ...

... br> After settling in we took a stroll to check it out and found we were only about 350 metres from the impressive Chateau in Bauge. after our stroll we had decided on a restaurant which was part of an Auberge de France hotel. It was excellent.

We had passed by Bauge a number of times over the years but as the road towards Le Man bypasses the centre we had never stopped.

One interesting story we learned about Chenonceau is that its location had significant importance in WWII. The chateau is built right on the river Cher and actually crosses over the river like a bridge. When France surrendered to Germany, a line of demarcation was established separating Nazi-controlled France in the North and the Vichy government (unoccupied territory) in the south. Chenonceau ...

... and our host was extremely helpful and kind. We stopped tasting about halfway through the whites as they got too sweet for our dry wine tastes. We also had the opportunity to sample a few whites - Petilland - mini bubbles, and Methode Traditinelle - traditionally made sparkling wine. Both were lovely, and I picked up a bottle of the drier, smaller bubble sparkling. The word is similar to that used for sparkling water, so think of it as being halfway ...
